Oh dear. Now that does look absolute bobbins
  7. might have a spare OL Grant, I'll have a look mate. (It won't be 50 quid either if I have). Great underplayed tune
  8. oh mate, genius Always was a big 'props' fan: coat-hangers, mail sacks etc etc. Tony L made me laugh out loud last week when he recalled another 'incident' whereby Gaz emerged into the dawn light sans shoes and socks; he'd swapped his brogues for a Hesitations record (and was well happy with the deal by all accounts)
  9. Was chuckling t'other day about a Kellet escapade whereby he somehow 'found' a massive sheet of gold paper / foil (bit like those people get wrapped in after a marathon). He proceeded to wrap himself in it and career around the venue claiming he was a "werther's original", approaching unsuspecting victims with the immortal line "come and have a sweet of your old grandad"

Off at a bit of a tangent but ... ... Going back home to my parent's following a nighter passed through Dalton-in- Furness and was somewhat surprised to see what appeared to be a couple of rhinos in a field next to a dual carriageway. Spot on, they'd just opened a wildlife park although I didn't know that at the time. You can still see em to this day but it doesn't freak me out quite so much now as it did that morning. (It may be an urban myth but I'm led to believe that one of them subsequently got out and ran amok in Dalton which, for anyone not familiar with the place, is hardly a jewel in the UK's entertainment crown at the best of times. I'd have paid to see p*ssed people encountering that little scene at chucking out time. WTF ... )
  11. Some great tunes in there Harpo, sorry I missed your set mate. Here's a handful I can remember playing 10-11: Vontastics - let me down easy (Toddlin' Town) George Tinley - ain't gonna worry (Doo Wop) Toni Washington - good things (Kon-Ti) Little Stanley - out of sight lovin' (Vance) Eddie Campbell - contagious love (Artco) Celebrities - didn't tell the truth (Boss) Robert Tanner - tell me your name (Megatone) Roy Wright - heartbreak (awful day) (Crash) James Dockery - my faith in you is all gone (Soul Craft) Reggie Lamont - can't get along (Mamies) Ducky & the Glowlighters - over and over (Uptown) Royal Imperials - this heart of mine (Mellow Town) Turbines - we've got to start over (Cenco) Strands - breeze from the trees (Tarx) Talmadge Armstrong - give it up (Spindletop)

    Cheers Phil
  13. Impeccable as ever mate
  14. George T is absolute magic One record Trent Sisters - a letter a day (Gogate). Never had one or even a sniff but it's got the lot for me, absolutely awesome record and still to have its time in the limelight due to rarity I suspect. I'm v fortunate to have my other three all-time 'dream' tunes, none of which I thought I'd ever own, but I'd probably consider letting one of those go for a Trent Sisters. Funny old game innit; never bloody satisfied atb Phil

went to maybe half a dozen early 90s as I recall, when we were living in Brighton. Didn't know too many other punters but remember Lloyd n Julie of course and Rick in particular. Seem to remember things like Tangeers, Big Daddy Rogers and Patrice Holloway being spun on a fairly regular basis round that time. All good, happy days

UK postage as per RM, anywhere else I'll check: Benny Curtis - lovin' back guarantee (Dynamite) vg+ £150 Proper and rare rnb dancer Patrice Holloway - Ecstasy / love and desire (Capitol w/demo) Ex £100 Two fantastic sides of course. Ecstasy is just an awesome record IMHO Edward Hamilton - call me / I'm gonna love you (Carrie (orange) vg++ £275 The only version and one of the best Detroit double-headers around. Bit of ring and light marks, never see it now. Ernie Johnson & the Soul Blenders - you got to be faithful and true (Duplex) Ex £200 Great dancer which is yet to have it's day Vince Apollo - I bear witness / can't turn my back (Pentagon) Ex £175 Perfections - Girl you better hurry (Tri-City) £100 Absolute, erm, perfection Cheers Phil

  19. Is Inconqs another copy? Been away so missed end of last auction.
  20. Join the club pal
  21. Personally I don't give a toss what people's supposed 'motives' may or may not be or what they do or don't write on them, just grateful that some take the time and make the effort to give folk a flavour of what's being played round and about, chance to maybe check something new out etc etc. No one forces anyone to do anything of course but I always think there's far more preciousness and / or insecurity involved in actively refusing to do one.
  22. Obviously, they'll all only do what someone is prepared to give for em in the end, not really down to John in that respect. He does erm 'wax lyrical' though and some of his write-ups are genius. Tragically, I still enjoy and sometimes chuckle at the descriptions you see on lists and websites. Barry Wad remains the master IMHO and his list is always the most descriptive: dreamy, pounding, floaty, mid-uptempo, floor-packing, girlie, upbeat etc ... ... brilliant!
  23. I think it is generally, the mega rare things and 'big oldies' notwithstanding maybe. That said, Freddie Williams ... ... wtf
  24. PM me with price and condition Cheers Phil
  25. No bids mate far as I know. It's my mate's record actually. Do you know what Don and Ron did? cheers Phil
