Most of them were scooter boys from South London - all my mates from the Merton Detours SC were in it. Only little Peter Grant was doing the northern scene in a big way at the time as far as I know, the rest were attending scooter & soul nights locally, and still do. They would have a right laugh at the drama school comment - they're mostly builders! Love the Style Council, and never ashamed to say it. Weller was just paying homage to something he loves. That video takes me right back to when I was 16. T x

Might not be connected, but I had terrible mail problems from 2nd-14th Feb because of the snow here in the UK. Some stuff never arrived, some sat in depots and was delivered up to 2 weeks late. Caused me no end of problems both sending and receiving stuff and ended up costing me hundreds due to the consequential losses. The guy might be genuine, and your record's sitting in a sorting office in Swindon... Always best to get proof of postage just to cover yourself, I've found the RM always cough up promptly if you make a claim, and it keeps those pesky customers happy.

OMG that's a proper time machine track for me too, but for all the wrong reasons. May 84, I was 16, on a first date, soul night at the Rose & Crown in Wandsworth - loved that tune and danced to it before leaving on the back of his lammy, along with my best friend Steph on the back of our friend Jimo's. On the way home I turned round to see if they were following, only to see a car run a red light and smash into them broadside. Broke their legs but they survived thank God. Can't hear that record without seeing it over and over in my head. Not keen on riding pillion even to this day. On a happier note, the Supremes' Stormy takes me straight back to the Spring of 2000 and my first weekend with Justin, now my husband. If there is such thing as a perfect weekend, that was it - sun, soul, sex & Stormy . On the way home from a fabulous day in Brighton, he kept replaying that track over and over in the car for an hour because he loved it. I remember floating into work on the Monday morning, the girls asking how the weekend went, and me telling them to get down the hat shop...

I went to the thing at the Elephant with Godfrey from Brixton who I was seeing at the time - do you remember him Ady? Possibly the only 100 Club regular trying to combine maintaining his afro with wearing a crash helmet as he was in the Titans SC . I can even remember what I wore, but not for the life of me what the do was called.

I'm sure I remember that one, and at that time I was mostly in London. Was it something to do with Sean McCluskey and/or Ion Tsakalis? There were some warehouse-style nighters around that time at Elephant & Castle.

I didn't know, until I went to see Jersey Boys last year, that 'Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye)' which I had loved as a 7 year old at the height of Rollermania in 1975, was originally by The Four Seasons. Everyone else there knew except me...

Aww, nice tunes, sounds like twas a cracker. To follow on from my earlier post, we made 100 CDs with our tunes on for all the guests, and printed the lyrics inside together with the reading from our service so that the relatives and non-soulies would understand where we were coming from. Also was lovely to give to those who couldn't be there with us on the day. Several cousins said they were still playing it constantly on their car CD players months later... Justin's Mam was travelling down from Morecambe for the wedding (he's her only child), and she got stuck behind a massive pile-up on the M6, and sat sobbing in the ensuing traffic for over 7 hours, so missed the wedding completely. We had to recreate the whole thing for her, so CD came in very handy again! T x

I was too young to go to Wigan as you well know Simon , but scooters and northern have always been inextricably linked for me. Used to take scoots up to the 100 Club from the early 80s onwards, and always remember parking up amongst rows of other scooters outside some of the great London soul nites like the Function At The Junction. And Mappy I well remember that we used to have to keep an eye on our bikes then as thieves were rife. In fact I had to desperately wriggle away from John, the 100 Club's big doorman, one night, as he somehow thought when I said "I've got to go and check on me scooter in the back alley", it was a euphemism for "follow me round there and give me one". Eek! But there will never be anything quite like riding home in formation through empty London streets early on a Summer Sunday morning after a cracking niter, crossing the river and checking the awesome view as we headed back to the Southside. The husband Justin is quite a bit younger than me, and was part of the third wave of scooterists from the late 80s, if there was such a thing, and never did the mod thing at all. He rode his SX from Blackpool to just about every niter throughout the 90s, mad fool, and we've still got a garageful of assorted runners, wreckers and white elephants projects. I'm a Lambretta girl myself, but we have got a GTS 250 and I have to admit it rides like a dream. Long may the association continue. Our eldest boy Leon:

We had: I'm The One To Do It - Lavern Baker Because Of You - Jackie Wilson Just Loving You - Ruby Andrew I'll Be Loving You - Soul Brothers Six Plus, a wedding night at the 100 Club! A bit cheesy, but said everything that we wanted to say. Good luck Kev & Sharon - hope Saturday is absolutely wonderful. Theresa & Justin x

  19. I never liked the music much, or the trousers for that matter. I mainly got into the scene to improve my UK geography, which was, quite frankly, appalling. So I spent 25 years learning the ropes - could navigate from the M1 to the Wilton Ballroom whilst blindfolded, guided a minibus of locals to the Shotts allniter without a wrong turn, got to the Ritz without ever ending up in Canal Street, parked on a sixpence within 100 yards of the 100 Club, could tell you which motorway services had the best coffee and toilets. You name it, Logic Woman could get you there. Then some bastard invents SatNav...

We probably won't get a proper foreign holiday this year because of having three little bairns and cash being tight, so we're doing three weekenders (one north, one south, one European) instead. Yippee.
