  1. Are we any nearer finding out who the artist is or is it a secret that will be taken to the grave. Played mine out last month sounded brill
  2. Yeah thats one thing that is a lot different now.The venues that i went to in the 80s and 90s had a tangible edge to them. The atmosphere could sometimes be very intimidating. This made the whole experience exciting and a real buzz.Nowadays things are a lot more welcoming and sociable which dont get me wrong is a good thing but just different. Every venue had a scary corner crowd full of scary people. For some reason some of the wierdest always sempt to attach themselves to me,but became great mates and top people. Some of them however just remained pure Scary. AT the end of the day every generation of soulie will have their own tales and folklore.I love to hear the old School mens stories.Pre internet, social media and mobile phones the scene was a raw and underground fuelled by word of mouth and reputations. Its a completely different scene for todays newcomers but the most important thing is that they have discovered it nothing else comes close.
  3. 1978 to 81 My 13-- 16 year old self ventured to the local youth club and became hooked on the Northern Soul sounds that some of the older kids were bringing back from The Casino and other venues.I did venture to a few all dayers and local soul nights but the Youthy was the main place until at 16 i started work and a year later ventured to my first nighters. The youth clubs at that time were massive and you had to que up to get in lock outs were not uncommon. The youth club was populated by several different music factions who all pestered the DJ for their records. The result was a slot of around 15 minutes for The sub cultures of the time which were The Heavy Rockers, Punks, Ska and Mod revivalists, Disco, General Chart Stuff, Soulies. We always secured a longer spot mainly due to the fact that amoung the Northern crowd were some hard core loons that gently persuaded the DJ to play a few more. The Hammered sounds at the time were Rain Out of my mind Bobby Diamond Stop Mistura The Flasher Andre Brasseur The Kid Willie Mitchell The Champion Just Brothers Sliced Tomatoes Exciters Reaching for the best Gerri Thomas Look what i got Judy Street What Sly Stone Dance to the music Danny White Cracked up over you Dean Parrish Im on my way Seven Dwarfs Stop Girl
