Yep, you're right Dave Nashville Matrix on YLIGS, though publishing credits are the same, and the release numbers are consecutive (which is quite amazing for small labels )....not convinced mate...

The thing I can't figure on this "legal re-issue" is if it was repressed for the group collectors then why didn't their other Voice release "Summer Kind Of Love" get a repress at the same time. SKOL is far more of a group harmony collector sound than YLIGS, and I would had said equally as tough to find. I'm still with the sceptics on this, and am far more inclined to believe it was re-pressed more recently than the the late 70's, legal or not for the UK scene. If they were around since the early 70's then it's hard to believe that only turned up "recently" with our friend from Vegas.
  9. It's self titled "The New Sounds" , and the lead switched between Larry Brown, Jack Lewis, Melvin Lewis and Robert Tanner.
  10. You need Larry Saunders "Stranger" album on Soul International. I don't know if this has been re-released on CD, but other August Moons/Mr.Wiggles productions have - check CDBaby.com New Sounds line up Gerorge Melvin, Ronnie Hall, Jack Lewis, Larry Brown, Melvin Lewis, Jimmy Brown, Robert Tanner, Dawson Smith, & Albert Mallet. Only know of one album, originally released on Turbo, and later ree-released on Japanese P-Vine. A great album which includes the brilliant "Sweet Memories" , which was also released by Robert Tanner on 45.

Are you really trying to compare Duffy with James Brown, Jr. Walker, Edwin Starr and Jackie Wilson ?...Get real. Duffy is a good Lulu sound-alike with a nice enough soul tinged pop track - but that's all - let's get things in perspective.
  12. Yep 30 years ago, new releases played alongside traditional 60's tunes, often within the same set, and you're right we just accepted them as part of the deal, no tags. Amen to Essence - makes you appreciate how special it is See ya at the bar
  13. Pete, if a comment is made on a thread titled "Birth Of Modern Soul" that completely dismisses everything past '71 then it's bound to attract a response. If people haven't got anything constructive to say then they should find another thread more in line with their views or taste. I couldn't care less whether someone appreciates modern soul or not, each to their own, but I do care when ignorant, contemptuous and inane comments are made to against a particular music style, just because it's not their cup of tea. Unlike Jehovahs Witnesses, I only provide sermons when invited.
  14. No Simon, but met plenty from the same mould
  15. Lightwater dropped from your favourite venues list, blimey that was quick
  16. Got mine cheap back in the day too - 40 quid, reduced from 50 because it had the cover up tape around the run out . I wouldn't mind getting hold a brand spanking new one though, $600 max, now it's finally turned up.

My Heartbreak is an issue, and it's on vinyl.....so I guess it's a generic print error
  18. Ah I see, thanks for enlightening me. So that would be very different for the "Head Scratcher", characterised by lack of imagination, usually brought on from high exposure to Top 500, and having rejoined the scene after many years of absence. These poor things can usually be found muttering things like..."never heard this at Wigan", "don't know this, it's crap", and shouting "play something I know", backed up with requests from long gone all-nighter sessions, when he was lad. These bewildered types often fail to appreciate that things move on and "new" soul records have been played during their twenty or so years "break". Quite a few of them look to recover their long lost days by becoming DJs at local soul nights, where once again they can re-live their time, over, and over, and over.........
  19. ...and just how is that relevant to this thread ???
  20. That's the HUGE difference between the venues that put punters through the Top 500 machine, and those that work hard to make this a progressive scene by adding new music. New music that will eventually find it's way to the less adventurous venues, when it's been tested for dance floor safety. A DJ should be booked for what he plays, not for following instructions. Good DJs play the music they like, their musical taste is generally what makes them good. An hour of predictable floor fillers doesn't make a good DJ
  21. It looks like you're locked in th 60's, it's hard to belive that you can make a comment like all down hill from the O'Jays, and bag everything after '71 as general disco . I see you include Lightwater as a favourite venue, ever thought about popping downstairs to the "modern" room during Keith and Maxine's sets ? You might just give yourself a better opportunity to broaden your outlook - but I wouldn't put money on it
  22. I couldn't have put it better - too right mate
  23. If anybody asks me to play Voo Doo Man, I'll tell 'em I've traded Four Tracks with you 'cos I bloody hate it
  24. East Coast Connection......now there's a chooooon
