  3. Haven't used "Northern Soul" on any flyers since the 80's - always "Rare Soul", though it still confuses the hell out of the oldies punters
  4. Yes, that's right Gav, but without the extra 5", and company card sleeve. I picked up half a dozen in Memphis as new release, knocked them out for 15 at the time. The last copy I saw for sale was in Sam's box last Cleethorpes which Glenn Knight bagged for 25.

Had my Vent copy for donkey's years for about the same price as yours Sean. I guess a value would be 400+ based upon the Atco copy value of 250ish.

I remember it being on but it was a bit off the bus routes for me, IL also had regular nights at his parent's club, The Lemon Grove in St Annes - there was plenty going on back in the day.

You are so right there Sean I'd have to say in their defence that they had a double sided demo

Yep, I grew up there (never want to see another slot machine again, ever), then emmigrated to Northampton to spread the word, and make converts (saved Trev from a life of Quo , and Val from his Captain Beefheart LPs ), never a word of thanks though . Great time growing up there, just too young for the Mecca though, but there were some magic record shops there, Sinfonia was one, run by a guy called Sandy Mountain, who had a great British collection, and my mate's older brother's record collections to wade through (when they weren't looking). There was another club that I used to go to on Saturdays, Disco 72, in Central Blackpool, opposite the pier, it was 50/50 soul and chart tunes, but it was top to me and my mates 'cos they'd play "This Is The House Where Love Died", when the other discos were playing "Smarty Pants" Great times

I cut my teeth at mid-week venues, there was a soul club in Blackpool, around 74-75 that ran soul nights every night, Scoey's, on Victoria Road, run by Peter Schofield. DJ's were mostly local guys, with Ian Levine playing every Tuesday. Blackpool Casino on the Pleasure Beach used to have regular soul nights on Thursdays too...I was always late for school in those days , worth it though for the real education.....

Great set Steve, you've got my wants list working overtime, hard to pick out the top track because they were all top, top quality, but if you said I could have any one I wanted then I'd flip a coin over Tommy Tate and Floyd Beck - both superb. By the way I've got an album by George Bussey Experience, on ABC (I think). It's archived in the attic, but if I recall correctly, it's out and out disco (that's real disco not the kind of disco that you and I occasionaly play ), though I'm pretty sure there's a track on there. I'll dig it out and report if there's anything worthwhile.
  11. I'm still having problems with Refosoul, so can't help with audio right now. I'll report to the site techies, and try again later.
  12. If you set out your music policy clearly then everyone is able to make a clear choice on whether the event is right for them or not. Once you've set out your stall, you need to keep to your policy, otherwise you end up with a confused night, and nobody gets what they want. Better to satisfy the punters that attend for the advertised night, than to try to please a minority that failed to understand your music policy.

  14. Uncle Ady put this out on a Kent CD - Let's Crossover Again, I've just tried to add sound clip but Refosoul doesn't seem to be working. It's certainly not their best recording, described in the liner notes as "poppy Detroit soul in the style of Honey Cone's Hot Wax hits", which is a pretty fair review.
  15. Gets my vote for one of the worst records ever, and as much as I like the Stairsteps Mayfield output it's their worst on the label Curtis Mayfield on a rare bad day.
  16. Does your article mention the Delicates on Pulsar, I can't locate my copy right now, but I'm certain Bobby Sanders was involved
  17. I paid 15 quid for mine yonks ago, but you don't see it around nowadays. We can expect the value of that little gem to start to rise now too.

Yes, the very, very, very rare one. Now taking offers over the cost of postage

I've got their LP if anbody's interested
  20. .....and that's me behind the camera
  21. On your garbage list with Betty Willis then Pete Can I have a look through your garabage box
  22. You should try the flip on +8, it'll sound just right for some
  23. Always preferred this over Rita's, played at the prescribed speed...a proper soul record
  24. Nice tune, but more crossoverish than modern soul, I'd say....never heard it played out though
