  1. Totally agree Steve, the atmosphere was fantastic throughout the whole day (and in the kebab shop after with Elaine!) and I know many were stunned at just how right it all felt. As with all things lets wait and see the film before we pass comment on its merits etc, otherwise its all a bit pointless isn't it. Look at the slaughter and abuse that Daniel Craig took when he was cast as Bond before the film hit the screen - when it did he turned out to be superb and a lot of people had to eat their words and frankly look total knobs!
  2. Ah now theres memory from the early days around here! Jackmans Soul Nites, Westbury Community Centre - Taffy behind the decks, Nick Porter in his brown flared suit (nice!), Toby still able to throw in a backdrop and a load of us giving it shapes (down with the yoot me!) on the dancefloor to this gem.
  3. No problem Winnie, understood that. It just made me laugh when the guy came out and said that there needs to be a clap at XXX min and again at XXX min! I was tempted to whiplash him with my fancy dress (yet strangely attractive) baggies! Picky? Us? Surely you jest sir
  4. I was at the filming of the dancehall scenes Win and I can tell you now there was a collective WTF! when one of the production crew told all of us where the claps need to be! Closely followed by 500 Soulies grinning at one another and going ahead and doing exactly what we've all done over the last 30-40 years. As far as the tongue in cheek comment re researched goes I can confirm that it really has been researched well, even down to stopping filming at various points to confirm if such and such would have happened in 1974/5 etc, fear not it's in very safe hands. Oh and Steve 'Schofield' G and Taffy were also on hand so nuff said!
  5. You think thats rude, I swear Jackie Wilson as it fades out on 'I've Lost You' sings the loving snippet: "I'm gonna kiss you in the morning where the sun don't shine!" - Ooooh er!
  6. I know Elaine and her background and your spot on, no-one need question her credentials because she has the same love and passion for the scene and the music as we all do and if anyone was to make a film we should be grateful its her, a very safe pair of hands. I'm looking forward to what looks set to be the first film that actually gets across some of the passion we all feel for the scene.

Yep have to agree with that, the beat is thumping.

Nice tune but not really worth more than a tenner, at least thats what i paid for mine years ago. Isn't it popular with the Deep Soul fraternity?
  9. This may be a sad truth now I'm heading rapidly towards the 5-0 Phillip, however I'm not silly, I've traded in my bags for a pair of Zoots or Bowies and invested in bicycle clips - no leakage when I'm out spinning!
  10. Only if you play the female lead Win
  11. Been made private so think the guys wasnt allowed to share, think he was one of the dancers
  12. Now that REALLY made me wet myself

This was actually uncovered on this very site some 5 years ago if I remember rightly (google it). Stomping backbeat and shite vocals, Christ the med's must have been good when we were young because I recall thinking this was fantastic! Peters & Lee? Is this why it was being offered blind? I will get my coat now
  14. Thats brightened up my morning Pete no end - genius!
  15. I think that would be Sandy Holt Steve, World Kickboxing champion if memory serves right so FFS don't anyone say Bruce Lee wasn't an influence on his dance moves BTW he really was a great little mover!Sandy not Bruce
  16. BTW Phillip Schofield Of The Soul Scene, I do have film of you behind the decks at the 4 Emblems Xmas Soul Night we did a few years back giving it some shapes behind the decks! So if your in any doubt you may need lessons let me know and I can post here
  17. Given our age Steve I suggest you watch STRICTLY on a saturday night and pick up some moves from there, sequin tight dress at your discretion - ooh er I do the odd acrobatics still, and in my baggies (LEAVE IT!), but I tend to spend the next 3 months recovering - usually in front of the TV with Strictly X
  18. Point well made Bearsy re letting the SOUL absorb into you. When I first started going way back in the late 70's I spent most of my first nights at Soul Do's listening to the music and watching the dancers open mouthed and then going back home to practise practise practise. My bedroom carpet with the MASSIVE hole worn in after countless spins bears testament to this Everyone has to start somewhere, even us aging Soulboy, so let's just hope they find the path to Rare Souldom just as easy and exciting as we all did - just NO BLEEDING TALC PLEASE!
  19. Could have been worse Winnie, they might have been taught the art of applying half a bottle of Johnsons upon the dancefloor and then walking off, leaving you and I yet again waxing loudly and expletive laden at the side I take it we are still as one on the over use of talc!
  20. The man is a class act and I for one will be doing my best to get to see him whilst he's on these shores. The Film 'S.O.A' is moving and uplifting at the same time and if you havent seen it yet download it from iTunes because Charles deserves to be seen by a bigger audience and appreciated for the talent he is. The whole Daptone setup really impressed me and hats off to them for bringing us Charles - a true soul man!
  21. A few years back I was visiting, as I always do every year, my parents in Minnesota, USA in a place called Walker that is right 'Up North' and out in the sticks. Population less than 1000 and all into rock or C&W. I strolled into the local tiny bookstore and whilst looking around the shelves of thrillers and romances and history I came across Manships Guide To Rare Soul Prices! In one second the realisation that Northern was no longer truly underground etc was upon me!
  22. Damm you Winnie, beat me to it!!! Genius
  23. Careful Ady, you'll be upsetting the Eurosceptics next
