  1. Point well made Bearsy re letting the SOUL absorb into you. When I first started going way back in the late 70's I spent most of my first nights at Soul Do's listening to the music and watching the dancers open mouthed and then going back home to practise practise practise. My bedroom carpet with the MASSIVE hole worn in after countless spins bears testament to this Everyone has to start somewhere, even us aging Soulboy, so let's just hope they find the path to Rare Souldom just as easy and exciting as we all did - just NO BLEEDING TALC PLEASE!
  2. Could have been worse Winnie, they might have been taught the art of applying half a bottle of Johnsons upon the dancefloor and then walking off, leaving you and I yet again waxing loudly and expletive laden at the side I take it we are still as one on the over use of talc!
  3. The man is a class act and I for one will be doing my best to get to see him whilst he's on these shores. The Film 'S.O.A' is moving and uplifting at the same time and if you havent seen it yet download it from iTunes because Charles deserves to be seen by a bigger audience and appreciated for the talent he is. The whole Daptone setup really impressed me and hats off to them for bringing us Charles - a true soul man!
  4. A few years back I was visiting, as I always do every year, my parents in Minnesota, USA in a place called Walker that is right 'Up North' and out in the sticks. Population less than 1000 and all into rock or C&W. I strolled into the local tiny bookstore and whilst looking around the shelves of thrillers and romances and history I came across Manships Guide To Rare Soul Prices! In one second the realisation that Northern was no longer truly underground etc was upon me!
  5. Damm you Winnie, beat me to it!!! Genius
  6. Careful Ady, you'll be upsetting the Eurosceptics next
  7. Indeed, utter Madness on my part not mentioning Also, if my aging brain recalls The Name used it too but I cant remember which T I had!
  8. Ah, I miss that girl When we double decked at Soulgate she did similar to some knob head which had me rolling with laughter behind the decks. Oh and she's the only other person I met who had a 'f*ck Art Lets Dance' T-shirt in 1980 like me - its a Mod thing
  9. And theres the point - the media are the ones who usually portray the scene in an incorrect light (no change there then) and if the scene is to be represented fairly, with all its diverse factions and history, maybe it has to come from within, like from Elaine as i pointed out earlier, and a documentary being made and placed on YouTube like the Funk one I linked above. Whilst we about it lets give Ady,Taff, Randy, Clarkie et all and the whole 6Ts scene a big up as without them the scene down South around here would never have taken off again in the late 70's.
  10. Maybe we should ask this guy to do a doc as I think his Funk scene one on youtube is excellent!
  11. I'd forgotten that one Pete but your right, DOH! Probably because of the 'interesting' videos of our heroes singing

I thought the same mate but wanted to give you the heads up in case it was one you really wanted and we've all paid over the odds for the ONE at times haven't we. Will ask around my contacts
  13. Wise words as usual Steve you silver haired smooth talking devil you On the subject of a proper in-depth look at the scene from it's birth to present day I read that Elaine is looking into this as her next project, however she may well want to reconsider after seeing the war of words a pair of baggies and a circle skirt has ignited lol ! I've faith in her that if she does go ahead it will be an excellent documentary as she is as passionate about the scene and the music as we all are, whatever we feel comfortable dancing in.

  21. Gutted I wasn't able to stray far from Chez Oppegaard so couldn't see the man in action especially as 'I'll Be Loving You' is in my all time top 3 and still the only 45 that had me wiping the tears away on the dance floor, still does. Class Soulful Toon!
  22. Steve, you should know by now we never smile or have a laff or happiness on these forums DOH!
