exactly !....there have been legendary clubs,bands,styles of music and we have all got our own memories of being there at the right time i would hope !... i was way too young for wigan..i knew about soul as my older bruv was probably on the coach with billy going to yate,st ives etc.....but for me i came along in the mid 80s via the scooter scene and i know people who have got into that in the last 10 years and look back and listen to my stories of 5-10 000 scooterists rallying every 3 weeks and them wishing they were there,thinkin they missed out... so no ...soul did not die with wigan ...even if they played a few pop tunes that wouldnt get spun today...same as custom scooters didnt finish with jeremy howlett (80s scooterists amoung you will know that name!!)...there have been lots of soulful wax and venues since and will be more to come...life goes on...enjoy it now....no doubt there will be a day when people look back and think they missed out cos they werent at the 100 club,kings hall , bidds or go go children ...i reckon anyway dean

very sad news ....and to be honest i wouldnt even wanna spend money replacing cheapies at the moment !....not enuff spare cash and always sumfin "new" to buy ! heard a couple of stories about oppertunist thieves dumping old vinyl not far from the scene of the crime....although with you so far away and it being london with so many record/second hand shops probably willing to take them ,not really helpful to ya...hope you here some good news soon dean

was reading this couple of days back while wondering where my frankie and johnny hickory issue was,hoping it was delayed in the snow or cos of xmas but in the back of my mind thinkin it may be in some customs yard somewhere... yesturday contacted the seller and got a parcel number went on the royal mail website and found it was infact 'held' by express 48....and bloody typical when i got home there was a letter waiting for me telling me evrything id just taken over an hour to find out......so ive just been up to collect it and part with another 20 quid...luckily it was near mint,still in company sleeve and had paid 90 under book so even with the post and extra was still a good bit cheaper than what it would have cost me in the uk... ...and i was thinkin it was lost at one point as last winter in the backlog i lost one...not sure if the seller ever got it back but was only a cheapie so he didnt mind paying me back.....dont think i would have got my money back this time if it had been lost so all in all 20 quid aint too bad i suppose dean

after reading marks thread about upfront or behind nicci tells me last night that ken dunn has posted on facebook that his and mick lloyds 'hip hug her' in weston supa mere is to finish !! please say it isnt so !!! hip hug her has being going for years and numbers have been down for the last few...i know its not a cheap venue as its one of the best and neither ken or mick are 'locals' so i suppose i can understand why but its still shit... music policy here is a bit of both its not all rare stuff you would hear some classics but not all night you would also hear stuff you didnt know...best of both worlds...such a shame not been on facebook myself...hope this is a misunderstanding dean

my tuppence worth......i think money has sumfin to do with overall numbers being down BUT...wot about those that are out....down here in the sw Des Parker probably introduces more new discoveries than most and i can remember being one of the few on the dancefloor a few years back to tunes that are now filling the floor....but 'most' people are not dancin to his newer plays when they probably will in a couple of years !!...it certainly takes longer to break tunes when there are twice as many venues as there was back in the 70s..... but i do find it strange the old casino goers etc just wanting to dance to what they know when they were younger they craved for new tunes didnt they ?...so maybe age and 'it was better in my day' syndrome has sumfin to do with it....the yougsters at go go children who dont know the top 500 will dance to anything uptempo and soulful....and maybe there was an abundance of quality northern to pick from back then compared to now but you cant tell me tunes such as the parliaments,kindly shepherds,jt parker etc are not as good... went to lifeline for the first time a few weeks back and loved it....angela davis/my love is strong is niccis new fave WOW what a tune !...will be upto stoke for the bidds alnighter...talking of stoke i love kings hall although some of the tunes are a bit same old the atmosphere and venue makes it... so i think theres a place for us all...we should expect that most people will be into 'nostalgia' but also people (not just djs/collectors) should open their ears a bit to things they dont know....find the beat and dance..who cares if you dont know the words...lastly i dont think the price of a tune has anything to do with it after all most peole dont know what things are worth when they are out on the floor (gutted when i got back from lifeline and checked the book on the angela davis...600!)...but a good dancer is a good dancer...my best 'new' tune is raful neals/you dont love me no more...funky as f*** but with a rnb feel..love it and it cost me a fiver and only books at 15...happy daze dean

forever !....cos quality lasts forever...remember once it was just a northern thing ,then it spread to the whole of the country now its all over europe and even the states...its not just the uk just as its not just those on soul source... yes most night are full of...well slightly older people who may not be out and about in say 10 years and there maybe lots of original tunes for sale bringing the prices down ...but there are youngsters getting into it abroad or at scooter rallies,which are more family friendly than in the 80s when hardly any of us had kids ! ...in ten years time maybe (because of the internet) they will be buying those tunes keeping the dancin and collecting scenes alive... and maybe when there are less oldies out more youngsters will be...think back when you were in your teens and twenties...would you wanna be dancin with 50 years olds? go go in bristol attracts a lot more youngsters than most nights i attend...could this be that bristol has never had a soul scene before ? (not including yate ofcourse)...and out of about 80 people only a couple of dozen of those are soulies over 40... always get 'younger people' asking me the titles of tracks we would all of known half our life but am also pleasently surprised when youngsters know tunes i wouldnt expect them too it will no doubt have its ups and downs but im sure it will be around when most of us on here have hung up our dancin shoes dean
