Would This Be Classed As An "inspired" Djing?
I like to chuck a surprise in every so often, something that no one was ever expecting and which can sound fresh as hell because it could be the first time they've heard it out for 45 years or ever in fact. I slipped this in at Baltic Soul earlier this year and at Hull Soul Club for the 13th Anniversary do in September and it had exactly the same effect both times - a bolt of electricity ran through both places and the dance-floor packed to capacity both times...... fits perfectly with most Northern sets too. Sounds just brilliant too! You Keep Me Hangin' On - The Supremes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3bjMtqpGBw Ian D

Which Records Should Be Played Out To Break The 500 Mould
And while we're at it, how this never made it I have no idea. It's got everything that a Top 500 has including a classic pounding production, a brilliant hook and singalong chorus and perfect lyrics for a Soul crowd... Which Records Should Be Played Out To Break The 500 Mould
It would've been nice to hear this out anytime over the last 45 years. I don't know how it fell through the gaps. Sounds like it could be good for the Top 500 crowd. I wish I could've actually found a copy in the early 70's 'cos I'd have played the hell out of it..... Would The Title Of A Record Put You Off From Playing It
Funnily enough, I just mentioned this is another thread, but Lou Pride's "I'm Comun' Home In The Morn'un" totally put me off 'cos it sounded like the sort of title a redneck shitkicker would use, so I abbreviated it to "I'm Coming Home" - James Lewis mainly because the original title was too much of a mouthful....... John Manship Auction Results 11-12-2013
Actually knowing John, he's probably collating all those sales pitches for another book "The Manship Auctions". He could then collate the history of his auctions with the descriptions which he's already written, the end results which he already has and the scans which he already has. Instant book which I'm sure a couple of thousand people would happily buy. So I guess that's why he's investing a bit of time in the descriptions. He's writing the equivalent of a set of sleeve notes every week which takes up a bit of time and research. I really like them though. That Cleethorpes one is a scorcher. Even Record Dealers can be poetic LOL.... Ian D

Future Of Northern Soul
Meanwhile "Happy" by Pharrell Williams jumps an astonishing 24 places on the UK mid-week charts from No.30 to No.6 in one of the toughest charts of the year. Could be top 5 by Monday and a potential Christmas No.1 if carries on at this rate. Now wouldn't we all feel better if "Happy" hits No.1 instead of another X Factor yawn fest or that tasteless Susan Boyle/Elvis Presley duet? Ian D

Future Of Northern Soul
OK, let me get this right. You copied the rainbow yeah? No comparison Mace. I admit "Prettiest Girls" is cheese, but it's encouraging cheese nonetheless. The song is on the soundtrack to a popular kids film, so the fact that Pharrell Williams even bothered to pay a homage to Curtis and the Impressions for a kid's movie is encouraging. Much better than most of the other new releases I'm listening to for sure. I take my hat off to him. He's a serious guy. No slouch by any stretch. He's doing exactly the right thing and it's working for me.... Ian D

Future Of Northern Soul
Actually it's a bit unfair 'cos I only posted up the Pharrell Williams/Velvet Hammer basterdised version of "Happy" with the GREAT video of the Northern Soul lass dancing which is now turning into the You Tube hit of the moment and a bit of an internet phenomenon. But, hey, we're on Soul Source, so here's the OVO version OK? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM&feature=share For me, this is EXACTLY everything I look for in a record. Infectious, uptempo, feel-good Soul music. The choir at two minutes, and then three minutes in, just slays me. A great, great record. When I hear new releases as brilliant as this, for me, it's as good as it's ever been. I can't really believe that they're making records like this anymore but I'm sure glad they are. Ian D
