  1. 2 absolute beauties Kev
  2. One more comment from me then I am out of here By all means pay a million pound for a record or 10p, but be true to yourself, buy it cos YOU like it, not to impress anybody or to Willy wave Best Kev
  3. Ilove some biggies, in fact down the years I have loved and still do love a lot of harder to locate records, my point being, people who are only turned on because a record is a so called "big ticket" record, read further back, the guy who will ignore a record until some "BIG DJ" gets his hands on it (not his fault) spins it, the price goes up, THEN the cheque book comes out, as stated before, I have some rare records myself that I had to pay a few bob for, but they aren't "big ticket" records that have been established through name DJ,S playing them, they are records I have heard through hours of looking, physically and through media, thought, I must have that record, then through research have found out they are either cheap (yipee) or hard to locate and expensive, then I have to shift stuff to raise the funds. People have their own ear, I respect that, but, sometimes its nothing to do with ear, read Chalky.s last post, its down to a T Kev
  4. On the very first page of this thread I said "not enough thinking mans record collectors" around anymore, which you have duly described above, and I stick by it, it doesn,t say much for someone who claims to be a soul fan when they need to base their buying on the so called "biggies" no vision, taste or initiative displayed there for me Kev
  5. Welcome back Bob, show has been a real miss, for me, from the outstanding Sherrell Bros onwards, fantastic stuff, that, Myron, Denise, Ella, Brenda, Unnatural Funk Band, Calvi Harris, Valdons, Curtis Gray and Eddie McCloyd all outstanding, however as I type listening to the Naturals which sounds nice, realised while I was listening, Fir-Ya although completely different in production and arrangement etc sounded like the same lyrics as one of my all time fave records, George Perkins-Keep on trying on GPR. Great show Bob, thanks Hang on, Whispers Needle in a haystack playing now, outstanding, and now Lee Williams, Peepin through the window-Carnival Kev
  6. No probs Len, fantastic version, deserves to be shared, thanks for that Kev
  7. Kev Cane posted a post in a topic in Record Wants
Looking for:- Soul Connection-Why am I supposed to cry-Socon Please PM with price and condition, Cannot pay by paypal at the moment, cash, cheque or bank transfer please Kev
  8. Hi Nev What I meant to say was if anybody were trying to take it from me Understand what you are saying about the search for records, i have done plenty of that and have had to wait. I spend loads of time on looking on American collectors channels, (and a couple of great English collectors) to listen for new stuff. None of it is big ticket stuff to be played at venues, that does nothing for me these days, just stuff I hear and think, "I must have that record" not to impress anybody but myself and a lot of them have cost me a few bob, you are right, you enjoy what you are doing, so no need to change for anyone, totally agree Regards Kev
  9. Talk about the Dream Team Kev
  10. Yes, I have some rare records (albeit no trophy records) but, you would have to kill me to part me with this, cheap as chips, thats why nobody's interested in it Kev
  11. Stands up against anything Kev
  12. Love that version Len, new to me, still, The Esquires is to me the better version, but thanks for posting, fantastic record
  13. See a Dramatics thread coming on, no complaints here Kev
  14. Jock was replying to comments that Benji had made, why get all defensive ? Kev
  15. Love this, "Treat me like a man" Kev
  16. One on ABC Bob, not one of their better known one's "Treat me like a man" like this very much Kev
  17. Jock mentions the volume of records on Chess/Cadet (that are quality) for under a tenner, all of the Dells stuff for a start (except maybe Thinkin about ya demand rather than rarity) and all of the Billy Stewart. Kev
  18. Give that man a ceeegar, right on the button Kev
  19. Brilliant indeed, do yourself a favour though, turn it over "Thankful For Your Love" is as good as anything they did IMHO Kev
  20. Most of the collectors I know Chalky collect Group, Sweet and Deep soul, "Northern" if we are talking globally contributes a small percentage as far as collecting soul records is concerned Kev
  21. Burke family, seriously under rated tune aswell Dave Kev
  22. Starting to think that some people adopt the same attitude when buying records as some people have when listening to DJ,s, a guy can have a record for sale for a reasonable price but will be ignored by certain PUNTERS, then JM sticks it up for auction and the same PUNTER can't get his cheque book out quick enough, like the PUNTER who will only acknowledge a record a "NAME" DJ plays when he has totally ignored the same record when "Joe Average" played it. Think I am going bonkers, or am I Kev
  23. Yes, a man of great taste and vision Rob Kev
  24. Great topic John, really hard to pin it down to exact reasons, its subjective really and there will be many opinions on this, for what its worth I reckon its only the so called big stuff that holds its value these days. Some records will have a "demand" shelf life and fetch inflated prices, once the shelf life is up the price plummets, you know the scenario, "so and so is playing it" so for a while up goes the price, pathetic really, but, thats the game we are in. It saddens me to see genuine fantastic soul records going for 99p, and then you see some average at best stuff going for big money because of the exposure certain DJ's bestow on them (not their fault by the way) great news though for the soul collector who can pick great stuff up for the price of a pint. Even rarer collectors records or records on the periphery (limited exposure) are not holding their value, got my opinion, there isn,t enough demand for the cheaper (all be it some great) records, the volume of genuine collectors isn't there any more and the cash is going towards the higher end "trophy" stuff, not enough "thinking mans record" collectors anymore. I'll get my coat Kev
