Soul Icon needs help - Sugar Pie DeSanto.

Dave Moore posted up the below on forum, already been posted three or so weeks ago but does seem that help is still needed

Today was a good day for soul queen Sugar Pie DeSanto. She could laugh a little, even talk about the fire without crying. She may have wakened her manager with a panicked phone call around 5 that morning, but she was OK for now

Anyone wanna help? Christmas coming , lots of gigs happening in UK, maybe a donation bucket or two or something? I'm not sure?
Somebody oughta do something though eh ...if not us ...then who? I'm happy to ad minister a fund or something through There's That Beat. In fact I'll kick it off....here's a hundred bucks.

second post

We've set something up to see if people wanna help.
If every soul fan donated the price of one Christmas drink, this lady's plight would be eased immensely. Any help greatly appreciated.

4th Rare Soul Allnighter at Bidds Stoke

Saturday 23rd December 2006 is the date for the 4th Rare Soul allnighter at BIDDS, Sutherland Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, ST3 1JB
9.00 p.m. - 7.00 a.m£10 on the door.

DJs on this occasion are guests Andy Dyson, Jumpin' Joan, John Kelly, Ted Couldstone, joining the resident team - Des Parker, Roger Banks, Shute & Mace.
A night of quality rare soul sounds on original chunky vinyl.

Held in the main room with its large wooden dancefloor and stage (and rather suspicous suspended decks to eliminate any bouncing records!)

A private carpark and late late bar makes this venue pretty much ideal. The record bar is always very busy at this event, and all record dealers are welcome.

There are only 4 nighters held each year at this venue.......So get all your pressies packed and your mince pies baked early...you may well need Xmas Eve as a recovery day......

More info contact Mace

email - macejojo@aol.com
DJ times for this Saturday at Bidds.

Funk Brothers London Dates Thursday 18th Jan - Saturday 20th Jan

The Funk Brothers
The Ronnie Scott's All StarsThursday 18th January - Saturday 20th January
£36.00

Information on The Funk Brothers
The Funk Brothers:
Jack Ashford (Leader & Percussion) Joe Hunter (Keyboards), Gregory Wright (Keyboards), Larry Johnson (Lead Vocals), Jeneane Cranet (Vocals), Valencia Robinson (Vocals), Robert McDonald (Bass), Derek Organ (drums), Ronald Rathers (Guitar), Angelo Earl (Guitar), Carmelo Scaffidi-Argentina (Trumpet), Tom Ralls (Trombone), Calvin Bennett (Saxophone)

Jack Ashford - Upon hearing the early Motown records that invaded England in the '60s, EMI Records' president Sir Joseph Blackwood remarked they would never make it because the tambourine was mixed too hot.. But Sir Berry Gordy of Motown Records knew something that Sir Joseph didn't: Jack Ashford was not just any old tambourine player - he was a tambourine virtuoso. Just talk to any percussionist about "the cat that played tambourine at Motown" and watch them become enraptured.

But his first love was vibes, and his playing caught the eye of Marvin Gaye when he saw Jack playing with an organ trio in Boston. Coming to Motown at Marvin's request in 1963, Jack went on to become their most prolific percussionist, playing more than a dozen traditional percussion instrument as well as a few "off the beaten track" instruments like knee slaps, foot stomps, and his own invention, the "hotel sheet." A particular favorite of Marvin Gaye and Norman Whitfield, Jack's imaginative and colorful percussion grooves were one of the principal reasons why these two great artists always seemed to be breaking new ground with every recording they produced.

Sad News Terry Mac RIP

Debbie asked could post the below
It's with alot of sadness that I have to report the death of Terry Mac from Manchester. Terry was a true disciple of the northern soul scene and an absolute evangelist of the 60s mafia. During the dark days of the late 80s when folks were few and far between he and a select band, Tommo, Oz, Pete Lawson and Daz careered across the country in their pursuit of rare sixties excellence. Terry hadn't been on the scene for some time but he never lost his love of the music and never perfected his dancing! His funeral will be in Nottingham but for more details please contact me on 07817728064 it would be great to have some old friends say goodbye.
Many thanks

Last Soul Or Nothing to be held at Aqua Bar Dec 02nd

Stevie just posted the news that this will be the last Soul Or Nothing at the Aqua bar Manchester this December.

Doesn't seem a year since the last one at Lloyd Street and while venue wise the Aqua Bar one never really touched the spot like Lloyd Street, it did carry over that great feel and amibance that marks events "Little Stevie" is involved in and gave "Soul Or Nothing" its well deserved reputation.
As thorough enjoyed every visit to this and previous Soul or Nothing venues hopefully Stevie in 2007 can keep the whole Soul or Nothing trip rolling on
