Thanks to all that passed through for June's session, it was great to see some familiar faces and some new faces too, especially those who travelled from as far as the midlands.
This month we have Dave and Lynne Girdwood joining us at Fallow Cafe. We can't wait for our first Scottish guest DJ's here's what Dave had to say:
"Really don’t know where to start, as we’re both recovering from a lost weekend in Silloth at SSW7. Both of us were brought up on soul music via our parents, and this was pretty much the first conversation we had with each other when we met at work in 2008. Move on a few years to 2011 when we finally got together, Lynne was living in Amsterdam at that point and I was back in Scotland – we’d send each other tunes to listen to every day. I eventually ended up in Amsterdam and from then on it was just a competition with each other about finding new tunes that the other hadn’t heard (and it still continues to this day). We moved back to Scotland late 2012 and that’s when I started collecting records properly again, Lynne gave me a hard time about the amount of records coming through the door and then a collector’s dream happened, she started buying herself. I’ve been back playing spots again since 2013 and Lynne got her first spot in 2015 – both coincidently got our first soul spots in Aberdeen. Ever since then we’ve been playing most weekends either separately or together (both of us are playing the Manchester Weekender at the end of June). We’re both also residents at True Soul in Edinburgh ran by Colin Law, a great club focussing on upfront 60s and 70s.
Really looking forward to playing some tunes at The Flipside as it’s not often we get the chance to play sweet, deep and crossover. Weirdly just noticed that the first CrAckPipE sOul mix about a year ago this week, there’s a few on mixcloud if you want to check them out"
As always we start at 9 and run til late. Free Entry.
