Following on from our resounding success at The Greene King Stadium we are back at Hinckley’s The Green Rooms for this one ..

Our two guest djs are Dave Hulmes and Tony Shawcross .. two guys with a massive wealth of Modern Soul knowledge between them. 

Having asked them both to write a brief resumé of themselves I could not put either into better words so without further adieu I present David Hulmes and Manchester’s very own Tony Shawcross .......

An original Northern soul boy, who cut his teeth listening to the likes of Searling & Soul Sam.  Dave’s taste has always been progressive.

In 1991, after Parkers, Dave ended up at an all-nighter in Bradford at the Queens Hall.  Downstairs a number of D.J.'s were playing mostly house (Dave Hawkins & Barry May etc.). Here he bumped into an old friend from the 80's, Robin Salter. Robin, now living in London, and working for Time is Right records, gave Dave a tape and said it was garage and street soul. 

In 1995, Dave began playing on a pirate radio station where he called his show ‘The Lift - Up Show’ after the track on Shelter Records. This is where he began playing this ‘Nu Soul’ music.

21st Century Soul was born in 1999 and Dave began to push his brand of vocal/soulful house under the nose of anyone who may take up the banner.

He has since been lucky enough to play at The Hilton Weekenders, Prestatyn Weekenders, Morecambe Soul Weekenders, Soulful Dance Weekenders, Vybe, Scottish Soulful Weekenders and a variety of other soul venues across the country. 

He also held down a weekly Saturday evening slot on Starpoint Radio for seven years.

I’ve DJ’d at many major soul events including New Century all nighters, Ritz Manchester revival all dayer, Prestatyn weekend, Blackpool International soul festival, was one of the founders and residents of the very successful Seductive Soul in Manchester, played both Kefelonia and Ibiza soul weeks and recently played in front of 3000 at Bowlers Manchester alongside Trevor Nelson. Present a weekly radio show on www.radiodiamond.co.uk in Manchester and have played at numerous gigs over the past 25 years. Sets can include 70,s, modern and upfront Nu soul music with a touch of Soulful House.

So there we have it !!! 

To say we’re looking forward to this is an understatement .... and as it’s only 4 weeks on Saturday we’re sorting our records as we post !!!
