About The Event

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2025 we're looking once again to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.

Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.

Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.

In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.

We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

The Ashton Faithful never fail to amaze, on a super busy Soul Calendar Saturday AND in the middle of Summer Holidays ,our Summer Soul Sensation at Ashton Ukrainian Club could have been affected !

In truth it was never in doubt, with quite a few regulars unable to attend, we had another influx of first time attendees and WHAT a night it was, with a real healthy turn out!! A small snapshot video attached!!!

Phil Dunn did a sterling job, as ever, opening the proceedings and the room was already starting to fill up!

Yours truly up next, mixing the styles and tempos for the early birds. I'll post a playlist in a bit!!

William Mailey was up next returning behind the decks after a great set last year. Again the perfect blend, The Jaedes, Montclairs "hey you" El Corals Band, Clarence Hill, finishing with an awesome mid tempo gem from Tommy Tate "what's the matter"

Steve Foran was making his debut at Ashton and lay down the gauntlet for what was to to come Ray Agee "losing again" The Professionals, Poets "wrapped around your finger" and so many more monstrous 45s and the dancers loved it!!

Next up, making his first appearance at Ashton Colin Law started with a BANG!! Rudy Love in the first salvo of selections, set the tone, Ricky Allen, Originals "young train, Sag Warfare, Mixed Feelings, John Harris WOWSER and an awesome debut unissued 45 from Ronnie McCain just brilliant!! We hope to have you back behind the decks real soon!!

Chris Churm AKA "The Finisher" rounded off a sensational night, Volumes "ain't gonna give you up" Jackey Beavers "a love that never grows old" finishing off with two class mid tempo gems Ralph Graham and Jack Montgomery "don't turn your back"!!

The room has just been re-painted and the usual atmospheric wall lights have temporarily been removed, but will be back for our next date, Saturday August 16th with guest DJs Andrew Dyson and Preston Cyberman Gis Southworth, it's gonna be good !!!

Keep a watch out on here, Soul-Source and Instagram for more details, as we near the date!!

Once again thanks to the Ashton Brethren, both regulars and first time attendees, for making all the hard work worthwhile!! Great to spend time with Ann Mundey and Tony Mundey AKA "The Happy Mundeys" Happy Anniversary GillStephen Rudd, nice to see the old Willton regulars Michael LeBruin managed to play your request, Stephen Chuddy Dudley Craig A. Butler Derek Pearson Bernie Aspinall Ian Wills Angie Heap Wills and so many more, have a great week and enjoy the video!
