July 24, 200519 yr Never counted the amount of dos, but attendances are very low down south at the mo. Just back from Rimini & estimate there were about 60 people out there from south of the Watford Gap. Which is sort of ironic, as some dos down south only get 60 in. I'm not knockng the scene down here, its just an observation. Col. Very few people from up North (IMO) at Rimini. Maybe you guys have it on a plate? I've always thought that Northern Soul was wasted on northerners Over to you.......

Will be putting more effort in to it this year On youre last comment if Norther was southern Soul so to speak it would not of lasted as it has up to now You Southerners tend to follow the next fad to come along, Ime talking generaly hear and NOT having a pop at the good southerners on site Music and fashion tastes move from the south up north, Northern Soul is differant it stated up hear and slowly moved south and now seems to me moving back up north. Ive been into 'northern' for years and Im from the 'south' I used to go 'up north' years ago but cant afford to, etc., as much as I would like to but we do have some decent venues/dos down here and I dont think you can say that northern is a fad for southerns, if I followed music as a fad Id be dancing to 'the crazy frog'! so please dont generalise! Possibly the best soul night 'venue' I've ever been to on the numbers front, I never really take much notice of how many are in - unless I can't get to the bar.
July 25, 200519 yr I did a thread about the eighties a while back and there were loads of venues mentioned and I would say a good 80% were in the North (North of Watford) I know eighties is yonks ago, but I've no reason to think that there has been a surge in the South in the last twenty years and a real big drop off in the north in terms of venues.

God, I hate that crap sooooo much. Col. Caister classics.....my arse. link ============= Have you ever been to Caister mate? one thing about the soul funkers is that they really do know how to party and believe me they dont waste their time pondering in the way northern soulies do, for them FUN is the key word, the last caister i went too, the first 3 records i danced to were 'Me And Baby Brother-War, 'You Know You Got Soul- Eric B and Rakim,'On And On- Erikah Badu. all from diferent periods of black music history and never once did the floor empty, everyone all on one groove, like it should be. del xx
July 26, 200519 yr i like the sound of that ..... a continually busy dancefloor (and i love me and baby brother too). most of the northern soul nights i've been to have had very erratic dancefloors. busy (ish) one minute ... empty the next, which i always find a little strange ......... but, i am a southerner i suppose

July 27, 200519 yr Hipshaker you have obviously not been to lifeline or soultown niters, packed dance floor from the minute we open,at the last middleton 450 still in at 7am and when we finished the dance floor started to chant, one more.In fact it is always the modern soul rooms that dwindle well before the end, niters im talking about now.
