Sat here with a bottle of red listening to that Steve White on Radio Sheffield playing Willie Mitchell - That Driving Beat looking for Pama Soul 45's on ebay and wondered what the difference is between the purple and blue labels? Apart from the colour before some smart arse comes on here.

I have Bill Moss on the blue but there is a purple label on at the moment?

Bobby Patterson & The Mustangs' " Broadway Ain't Funky No More " / " I Met My Match " was a Pama " blue " release .

Pama originally used a blue label witn silver font for their soul and pop releases, to differentiate between them and the orange with silver font labels of their rocksteady and reggae releases. Some of the blue labels were darker than others, but i don't think that's of any relevance in the overall scheme of things.

They later changed to the purple with silver font for non-reggae releases, and eventually dropped the two different colour schemes altogether when they changed the orange with black font to a deep red with black font label.

By that time, they had pretty much gotten out of the soul business, but they kept "Sock It To 'Em Soul Brother' in press for years, as it also appears on the orange label/black font design and, I think, the red label/black font one, too.

Me, I have a nice copy on Jamaican Stateside....

BTW all of the Pama soul 45s were legally licensed, in contrast to many of their reggae release which were of highly dubious provenance...

Just out of interest, the silver letters is it silver? I have a few US records on bronze paper that seems to have a green tinge like verdigre so is metal used in the paper for colouring?

Yes, I have, and other oddball ones like the Prince Charles Investiture (sp.?) LP and the Hastings Girls Choir one as well. Bizarre stuff.
