Hello!

I have a question concerning one of my favorite Motown-Recordings "Suspicion" by The Originals...

Can someone tell me if the version of the song by "the prophets" or the "detroit prophets" is really a different recording? it is faster and the ending seems to be different (different lead voice and add-libbing during the fade-out).

Many thanks,

Thorsten

Topic elsewhere about this, I think we concluded there were 3 different versions. The best being the Detroit Prophets.

Thanks...I will search for it...

i always thought the detroit prophets is a 80's bootleg, the originals speeded up to sound like a female version, which to be honest was the first version id heard and still prefer.

1st detroit Prophets press on white Advance label was speeded up too fast; correct speed one is fantastic, it was pressed twice, one on a black label and one on the Boot label.

There were two Motown Vault versions of "Suspicion" by The Originals that we considered for placing in Motown's "From The Vaults" series (only one album saw the light of day, and it didn't get "Suspicion". The better of the two versions was played by Rod Shard in the early 1980s (1982 or 1983?). Someone in UK taped it off him or his version, sped it up and booted it (as The Detroit Prophets). The other acetate version came to UK later. It's the only one on You-Tube now. It is not as good, in my opinion.

so where does the slow version come into all this..baby have mercy on me by the Origonals? I always thought that was the first version..

The one used in my latest podcast is the first one I think. The one with slower vocal came later, there are others too, one with a more early 70's feel to it with wah wah guitar effects or summit like. Simon T did a medley of about 5 takes I think. Wouldn't mind hearing it again but it is in refosoul and not yet up and running again.
