Just picked up a copy of this Soul City double sider from a local record stall. Got it home to discover that the labels are reversed. I've seen a copy of this on ebay, which stated that the labels are reversed but thought it was just a one-off. Were many issued with the labels reversed, or were they all?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a recent boot? Made about 10 years or so ago and if I remember rightly I read somewhere that Dave Godin, had nothing to do with these releases (as opposed to the 60's releases).

Could well be. The label looks like this:

The guy on the stall called it a reissue rather than a boot, but it's definitely not original. I only paid £4 for it.

I think Supercorsa means it's a boot of the Soul City release.

When I said 'Boot' I meant there was some doubt to the legitamecy of these releases. For instance no connection with Dave Godin and therefore probably no permission to use the Soul City name.

I have some of these later releases (boots), but think there was also issues with the sound quality of some after SC 130. Also one issue JD Prophet didn't even play the track that was listed on the label!

They came out in the early 200's I think. Some are good but some are rubbish quality dubbed off vinyl. Ask Phil D on here, I think he did them.

I've got a JD Bryant that does play the right side, it's rare though!

No, I have a copy of this with the right tracks that match the right labels

The ten I did (with Chris King), were done with both the knowledge and blessing of Dave Godin. We even had him signing sleeves along with Barbara Lynn at the Cala Gran Fleetwood weekender!

There were comparitively few of the Marie Knights that got out with the labels reversed. We couldn't re-do them as we only had 500 or so pairs of labels printed for each single as they were limited to a pressing run of 500.

my copy of marie knight also has the label reversed as does my copy of chuck jackson hand it over/good things come to those who wait on the same label

HI ALL.....One day there will be, someone out there in SOULVILE, that can make sence of what the real value of all the 45s going back to PYE DISCO DEMAND are realy worth as collectables?

1. Many of the records since the PDD & MCA 45s like LE ROYE. LADA EDMONDS Jr.DANNY WHITE, & so on, are and have been collected by many UK collectors, at the time of release, but for many it was back in the 80s, when many people started missing their All-Nighters after setleing down to a 2.4 kids Wife mortgage, dog,+ bordom?

2.Taking that on board 60s SOUL, was still very much what it was all about, and collectors were in 2 camps both wanted rare origanals, and exclusive sounds to collect, however 1 group of collectors just wanted US origanals, while the other (my camp) collected both UK & US uptempo dancers and classic Beat Ballards,

3. As I have my roots in the 2nd group, The Grapvine Lable, was a passion for me, 1st to collect all the label, 2nd to get all the lable but on Demos, But my real focus was trying to get all the classic UK records & the top US Norther SOUL records from the Torch Wigan days,

4. In 1983, I went into a record shop in WOLVES Mander Centre, that had a SALE on, and in the racks of 45s, there was a Dozen 45s on UK KENTthe 1st 3 titles, as they were 25p each I had to by the lot, also as I had dropped of the scene in 79, I had no idea of the history of the lable. (also I remember being in HMV, and there was 2 KENT LPs, when looking at the titles on the back, a true quantum leap, happened, as I read IKE & TINA, DANNY MONDAY, MARY LOVE, & my 2nd all time favourate record 'Can it be me?'MEL WILLIAMS,) sadly for me the write up was by HARBRO HORRICE? who the F**k he is? it maent nothing to me then, and even less now, I have heaed about rebranding? mind you some people no me as DtheDRUG, and not as the younger brother of NIGEL KILWORTH? and the antics of the SPIRIT of 69.

5. So this is my question, as most of the records released in the UK that can be orderd by a retailer, are the 1st time the recording was issued in the UK, thus making them playable for any DJ, as they are not pirated copys? however the pureist collector would soon cry FOUL! if that route was taken up?

6. Value, at one time such records were given to me on white lables, or special anniversary records, but in whatever year that the 100 Cub celabrated it 19th Birthday, this stopped as there was a trend to pay stupid money for them, from greedy money making t***s, since then EBay has been filled with dodgey records classed as reissues or 2nd pressings, why! who buys them?
