Posted April 14, 201213 yr Hi all Anyone tell me anything about Jesse Potter & The Fabulairs who recorded 'Now I Think Am Ready' on Big 8 Records please? The flipside is a version of James Brown's 'It's A Man's World'. Apparently 'Now I Think Am Ready' is getting plays on the scene - if so where and who is playing it please? April 15, 201213 yr Author Just googled this and found somethingfrom February 2010 saying Soul Sam had been playing this - don't know if that's true or not. Anyone know anything about this artist or 45 please? Cheers Richard
April 15, 201213 yr Pretty sure I have heard Sam (or someone) play this in recent times. Couldn't tell you anything about it though. Doesn't sound too bad either.
April 15, 201213 yr Yes think was being played by Soul Sam at one point and is a decent enough tune. It was fairly cheap too a year or so ago (£20/£25?)
April 17, 201213 yr It has been played in Europe for quite a while now.....great tune, love it! I think i paid £7 for my copy at a recordfair.... Edited April 17, 201213 yr by malayka
April 17, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the feedback guys Did they do anhything else do you know? Cheers Richard
April 17, 201213 yr Think i sold this to Sam a while ago? Originally thought it was those funky Manchester lads that played it first, or so Barry Maleady told us all when he played it on one of our Soul People shows a couple of years ago?
April 21, 201213 yr Author Cheers for the info Steve The more I play this one the more I like it. Cheers Richard
November 14, 201212 yr Author This has been driving me mad - but I'm sure Paul Weller used the basic song structure for one of his songs - it's so familiar. I can't work out which Anyone help please? Cheers Richard
November 14, 201212 yr The guys behind these tracks (Earl English & Jack Hill) went on to sign some of their later tracks to Invictus Records (Earl English -- "Wanting You") in 1974. Thomas Associates (who are 'credited' with producing their Invictus sides) also leased the Hi-Lites tracks to Invictus in 74 (Philly's Keith Barrow wrote that song) and T.A. were also responsible for the Tom Green UK Action 45 tracks. November 14, 201212 yr That would be the same Earl English & the Apaches who had the 45 out on Six Toe (& on Big 8) ............. What does the 'Midwest Funk' LP notes have to say about him & the group (can't find my copy at present) ?? Edited November 14, 201212 yr by Roburt
November 24, 201212 yr Author What does the 'Midwest Funk' LP notes have to say about him & the group (can't find my copy at present) ?? Don't know mate - anyone elaborate please? Those Earl English & Apaches 45s are top class. This has been driving me mad - but I'm sure Paul Weller used the basic song structure for one of his songs - it's so familiar. I can't work out which Anyone help please? Anyone got any idea which Weller track it was please (the Jesse Potter soundfile is at the top of this thread)? November 24, 201212 yr Love that tune! It's been played here in finland few years now. used to be cheap 45 from funk sales list (flip is average version of it's a man's world) might be labels 1st release. Apaches-pull together (3001) is from year 1973 and this is from 1972 (B.C.A 1972) Edited November 24, 201212 yr by piitu
November 24, 201212 yr If Earl English and Jack Hill did business with Detroit's Invictus, maybe Big 8 Records and Six Toe Records were located in Michigan, and the songwriter, Willie Woods, is the same Willie Woods who was a member of Jr. Walker's All Stars?
