Anything 54 years old and looking like new, is there to be admired. This 1958USA press is so very not used. Only one light sleeve contact brush on the a-side vinyl gives away any sign of human contact. B-side vinyl is "as new"

Obviously you'd have thought this 45 is on auction because it's a huge, huge Northern Soul current spin. But for me it's the astonishing condition that lifts this up another level.

A 1964 Memphis session that crossed the ocean to sell, nothing upon release. But would quickly rise to Northern Soul cult status. Little wonder though, to the outsider, the mysterious world of Northern Soul is a bit of a puzzler.

Travis Wammack 1965 trip into Soul collides with Garage, Latin & Psyche, creating as unique an instrumental could ever be. One reason why this was not only a Twisted Wheel MONSTER but carried on all through the 70s as a Northern Soul oldies spin. Such was the demand, "Scratchy" was bootlegged numerous times on the replicated ARA label.

An infectious stand-alone instrumental that is impossible to compare with any other Northern Soul classic 45. Today this listing displays the summit of it's format. An eye-popping Mint - 1965 UK Atlantic DEMO!

The perfect example of how the Northern Soul DJ exposure dictates the value of rare records. This Youngstown, Ohio super-obscurity to me is every note as good as, say, The Nomads, Antellects, Soul Brothers Inc. etc. etc.

So obscure is this "custom" press, they didn't even credit the song with writers.

So check out this seamless 60s male vocal group dancer, it will reveal perfect Northern Soul that has been sadly neglected by the top flight DJ's. Consider the value if this got the exposure records of this quality deserve.

My Girl

Motown scholars will know all to well that this picture sleeve is one of the really tough ones to acquire.

But more importantly, of the very few examples of this extra i've seen during my career have all had varying levels of wear. The nature of black and white picture sleeve is they do easily suffer ring wear. As you can see from the scan this Picture Sleeve has no wear what so ever, just a light crease bottom left corner.

This is such a fine example even the top opening edges are as sharp as a razor.

Motown Picture sleeves are so desirable and we doubt if you'll find a finer copy of this extremely elusive one.

Note: * this 1965 USA release uses the original 304 Holloway Road Studio Joe Meek mix before Tom signed for UK Decca, his later Decca F11966 fails to provide the trademark "RGM Sound" the unique approach to recording that reverberated around that now iconic three story flat.

I paid even less than that Tim, not 12 months ago, but we'd better stop now before someone says we're slagging people off despite only discussing the price of a record.

what people dont take into account is the bids go up in increments thats why prices go high. Ive won a few very pleased with his auctions.

Not sure I quite follow that?

In all auctions the bids go up in increments, generally the increments increase as the price goes up.

The reason the prices go high is because people bid those amounts, nothing to do with the increments. If you want to bid you can see what you have to bid before you do.

Personally I'm never surprised at the price of really rare records because some people will bid as much as they need to in order to obtain those records as they don't often come up for sale.

What does surprise me is the prices fairly common records get bid up to just because they are thought to be "in demand". I could give recent examples but you just need to go through similar threads to this to see them. These are records that come up for sale regularly but then when auctioned seem to double in price. Very odd.

Why do we have this thread every week? JM for me is the Christies of NS auctions., impeccable credentials are worth a lot to many people. Good luck to him, please stop the " I sold mine for xxxx last week..." it is getting tiresome now

JM doesn't always get better prices though. The Tom Jones on Tower is a good example, if you have a look on popsike it has gone for nearly 6 times what was acheived on JM's auction this week.

I agree with Pete, these auctions are in the public domain and are worthy of discussion so they will be discussed. Particularly when something not very rare reaches a silly price. We do the same thing with eBay so what is the difference?

If it is tiresome to you why bother reading the thread? The auction results are available on JM's site for at least a week after they end.

If you ask me FB is still the harder 45 to get and the price is £1500 for me today, Donna King £1k tops but that's auctions for you. If I had both today for sale, despite these results those would be the prices I'd be putting on the 45s.

I prefer to set sell my sales in general its just so much more straight forward for everyone and people seem to like it.

Every week I read the JM auction thread and theres often 45s that go through cheap and theres always 45s that exceed the accepted price like last week Donna King £1400 who'd believed that would fetch 40% more than FB in 2012.

If you ask me FB is still the harder 45 to get and the price is £1500 for me today, Donna King £1k tops but that's auctions for you. If I had both today for sale, despite these results those would be the prices I'd be putting on the 45s.

I prefer to set sell my sales in general its just so much more straight forward for everyone and people seem to like it.

Historically is what I was saying ady and put it this way I've had 2 FBs and 4 DKs over the years so thats how it seems to me, I admit not had DK in 4 yrs though and I know a few FBs have surfaced this year.

sort by date in popsike and look at the trend, it makes more sense after that
