Her live shows are fabulous and a great night out.

I have an automatic standing order of 1 x everything she puts out.

What surprises me is seemingly how few traditional soul fans seem to rate her. The last time I saw her live I was about the oldest person in the house . Can it be because her records aren't rare?

I'm kinda like that Steve, don't know why (snobby maybe?) but she comes well liked by soul fans and highly recommended , will have to drop my my "if it ain't 60ts then it ain't worth shit" attitude

I don't know what song was posted originally as my work I.T. department have blocked it out, but she does a great version of "This Land Is Your Land". Though I'm not sure Lenny will like it as it does go over 3mins ;0)

Yes they're both very good live. Sharon last time I saw her did a 2 hour show, I have no idea how many pounds weight she must have lost doing that. Hot and sweaty. Talking of which are you joining us for a beer tonight?

I feel kind of the opposite.

I love her as an artist and would always see them live. Since the band have opted for a more 'traditional' sounding soul approach and moved away from the earthier funk sound of the earlier shows, however, the live shows seem to me to feel a little less dynamic. When I first them, the Daptones did about 30 mins on their own with Binky playing guitar with his teeth and round the back of his head a la Hendrix, but it was all really punchy, rhythmic and percussive sounding. She was still doing stuff like Pick It Up, Lay It In The Cut and some of the old Desco stuff and I've never seen such energy in a live performance.

I thought she and the band were unbeatable at the time, whereas now I find them only great.

I agree, the stuff is a lot less funky these days - and that was/is the type of stuff I prefer. It is more "mainstream" soul now.Still doesn't sound northern though (neither did her older stuff) so I reckon that would probably put some off who are big into that sound. I don't care that much for it personally, but I know a lot of people love it and are hugely passionate about it.
