Has anyone got a full length Stepping out of the picture - Johnny Maestro mp3 wav or whatever? I'm after the original Sceptre recording - not the boot, or the cd or the album version?

But I have to get as many 70 to 75 second tracks as I can onto the cd, sometimes I do record the full track for my own files, what month was it from?

Yeah that's the boot version/LP/CD. JD link I posted (#2 ) is different, especially towards the end, more wailing etc.

The reason why there is no wailing on the cd's and pressings is that they were taken from the master tapes from Wand/Scepter which were obtained by someone from the Uk in the Eighties and recorded onto acetates and compilations. The original Scpeter 45's obviously wail over the horns section near the end (you have answered my question) ALSO: thanks evil bay!!!!!!!!

Is this wailing you refer to about 1min 45 secs in, the group wailing during the break? The alternate take has Johnny Maestro wailing.

When AC put this out on Kent Lp way back in the 80's, he travelled to North Wales to purchase the 45 of Bob Foster as this was the only way he could get a mint cut from a vinyl 45 as he couldn't find the track on the tapes. If I remember correctly he states this in his sleeve notes on the Lp.

The version that is on a CD I have is quite different to the 45 on Scepter. This is very common, the versions from tape that make it onto CD's are very often not the same as the one used for the 45, and this is very rarely mentioned on the CD's, maybe no one bothers to cross check?

You're dead right I didn't cross check as much as I should have in those days. Still it means there's odd versions all over the place from back then.

Funny the Scepter CD turned up today, with you guessed it the shite version on it. Not the shite version, that's not fair - the not as good as the Scepter 45 issue version.

re: JM there's two different versions with different breaks, one with the group harmonizing in the break and on e with JM doing the wailing bit. Approx 1.45 secs in.

Great to hear that Johnny Maestro clip, but am i a minority of one who thinks it sounds better without the wailing bit ? I dunno, it sounds sort of as though it is dubed over the top to me, don't think it enhances it .

It would seem so. Thanks a lot for that Simon. Pretty depressing here since the Transco people accidentally cut through the main Gas supply pipe last night and left us without hot water or central heating. We're coping and this helps!

Just get carried away with the romanticism of the (typical ns) alternate version, for such a big sound. After more than ten years of appreciating a great track and hearing it tons of times. Dancing to it one night (many year's back now) and what's this??? Wailing alternate take crescendo ending!!!??? Not just the wailing mind, Johnny's conclusion to the number, much more impassioned.
