got a mate goin over in march wants to know if anywhere decent ?? Did lots of New Orleans vinyl get wiped out by Katrina ?

I was record hunting in New Orleans the week before Katrina hut and I then went back a year or so after. Both times I found plenty of records, so don't think lots of vinyl got wiped out, though perhaps water damaged labels. I'd tell your mate to start off at Jim Russell's shop on Magazine street.

Heard many a good thing about Domino Records, supposedly ran by one of the guys who off-shot from Mississippi Records in Portland, OR. Mississippi is probably my favorite all-around record store on the planet, so if Domino is sewn from the same seed I can only imagine there's some gold to be found there. I'm trying to make it out to NOLA in the spring myself so don't take all the goodies

I was over in New Orleans in May and went to Jim Russells on Magazine Street, its vinyl heaven and only $3.00 a record, but allow yourself plenty of time to sort through the records.

Don't know if it's still there,but if it is try Gold mine records in Harahan New Orleans.Got a few nice pieces from them many years ago. I was told at the time that it was this neighbourhood where Tommy Ridgley comes from. Chris.

Po'boys are the best! Fried Catfish one will usually do me right, drenched in Crystal Louisiana-Style hot sauce. You can even go for a gator one if you're feeling adventurous
