first heard this from the new religion lp, or in the us "come to me softly" lp, then got a uk demo that was a different mix, now on ebay a copy on gaydisc thats like a reggae version, how many versions and why?

Jamaican version is first though it's not a ska / reggae version.  Was a big hit.  Then he moved to the UK and re-recorded it.

If I remember correctly.... is there a female version to this? I'm sure I remember hearing something quite lovely (IMHO) that sang... "I'll come to you softly)?

forget what radio station it was, but a couple of years ago, an internet dj played about 5/6 versions of this tune one after the other, was very good.
