as a new record collector in the late 60's I was told that Dobie Grays "Out On The Floor" was issued on  UK Pye Intl as a demo, never happened as I later discovered, or did it? Or how close did it come to UK release?

Dunno about that. It was reissued as a promo on Black Magic in mid 70s.

Not as I remember.............unless OOTP counts as a release  :wicked:

It was issued but withdrawn on UK Brunswick on the "Out Of Sight" soundtrack LP. That's as close to a sixties UK release as you will get. It has a slightly different version with a cold finish. The LP is readily available on US Decca, but quite rare over here on Brunswick, as only a handful of sleeveless copies escaped the pressing plant (much like the Len Barry Lp from the same company)

 

No contemporary 45 exists on any UK label, just the mass of boots / reissues that would follow over the next 45/50 years.
