Hi all

Just to save me for a lot of research: I do have the UK Blues & soul and Black music, but was there any American magazines covering soul music in the late 60s and 70s?

Tommy I can scan you the covers, I have all but two of them. I only have 1 of Soul and it's missing it's cover, it's a magazine format so perhaps a different mag to the one Dave mentioned.

Good question

To be honest, the Americans seemed more intent on getting rid of masses of Soul records back in those days, so I'd guess you'd be hard pressed to find too many mags, if any, covering Soul music specifically. I think it might have been a case of not knowing what they had before they lost it?

From what i remember there might have been a few- I think one was called Right On!

You can also try Jet for articles and of course Billboard, Record World, Cashbox if you can find them .

Thanks all! So is it fair to say that UK was better to cover the soul music scene? UK has always been very interested in soul music since the start of it, and I've read through all numbers of Blues & Soul from 1970 to 1973, and all Black Music from 1973 to 1975 and they really do their job!

The one called 'Soul' was a newspaper type, like 'Echoes' and was really quite good. Obviously it covered things from an American perspective, but I have copies with articles on people like Sam Fletcher, so it didn't just do the 'Marvin, Michael, & Diana' route.

Wow, thanks, would love to see this!

Is there anyone on here who has any copies of Soul Illustrated?
