Hi,

can anyone tell me the quality of the Bootleg press of I Don't Like It on Rika? How does it sound compared to the original?

Thanks!

  • I disagree with my friend above, it's tinny and is low volume compared to the original

  •   So did Captain Haddock

  •   Every copy has that at the start.  Just before and as it starts.

It's a long time since I had the boot but I think it was styrene with a crinkly label and the sound quality was typical of similar boots. When I got the original, I was miffed to hear the start as it was distorted. It sounded like damage caused by DJ backwinding. I have come across similar distortion on another copy on eBay but on other copies for sale, the distorted start has either been been edited out or the record actually has a clear start. Can anyone verify if the start on the original purple label with pussycat is indeed a studio sound not edited out? Do copies exist with a perfectly clear start without studio distortion?

Cheers Pete. You've saved me buying a mint copy to upgrade. Perhaps this flaw explains limited circulation of the record?

I remember a period in 1977 where I bought 3 copies of that in 6 weeks at Wigan, it was always £8 for some reason.  Every copy had the weird noise at the start.  I played one on saturday and that had it as well.  DJ Honky did a cd a few years back of his dj set and he played this, you can hear it on his copy too.

I guess I must have been lucky with mine! :wicked:

Yours will have it as well John!  Just before the record starts.  Have a listen.

Hi Pete, I just tried it before I made the quote there is a feint noise if you cue at the very edge (1st part of intro groove) of the 45 then it's quiet just b4 the music starts it's eerily quiet ( I guess 2nd part of intro groove) I have heard other copies that are noisy but this does seem very quiet! I even got a second opinion from a younger model than me just to be sure! lol!!

Hm, not trying to suggest anything. But is it possible that that specific "intro noise" press was dubbed from another disc?

No it's a fault on the master.  There were lots of these around before it started to become popular, the purple Rika ones are all originals.  I'll try and find the recording so you can hear it.
