He wrote it and also 'Unlucky Sun' on their LP but I don't know anything else about him. His BMI list brings up other songs that I recognise but I'm not sure if they are the same person.

 

Anyone know about him?

Could it be John W Anderson - aka KaSandra - best known for the single "Don't Pat Me On The Back and Call Me Brother" (1968) and who had some interesting LPs on Capitol late 60s and on the Stax subsidiary Respect in the early 70s.

He started out in the late 50s with RnB group the Cherokees and (allegedly) wrote Aint Nothing You Can Do for Bobby Bland but definitely wrote Breaking My Back for Lou Rawls ... although what little bio information is available on him doesn't show any links for him to Detroit  ...

He's a contender there was also a John Anderson who wrote early Joe Simon stuff out of the Bay Area and one wrote with H B Barnum in LA. Thanks

Thanks chaps, he was certainly the right age but what did he do after writing the hit in 1966, he doesn't appear to do anything before 1978 on these bits of info. Also if he wrote Sweetest One why didn't Pied Piper use him some more?

As a matter of interest The Metro's line up on the RCA album cover is as follows, the guy standing on the left hand side is Robert Suttles, the guy in the picture frame Percy Williams, the guy standiing on the right hand side Joe Buckman and finally the guy kneeling down at the front Alfred Mitchell.
