Hi folks, I'm new here, pleasure to meet you. Doing an article on Northern Soul for a US Mag and just wanted to see if anyone here would be so kind as to shed light on the following: 

The version of Bobby Hebb's Love Love Love linked below has a piano intro - which DJ first played the fade in version that appears on most comps and how did that edit originate?

Hi Dan, I'm not familiar with the fade-in version so presume it's just done to enable a bit more space on a crammed compilation CD. The original vinyl has the piano intro and I doubt any serious DJ would have played any other version.

This other version with the fade in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNOCCiEnpRE is actually the one that seems to be selected by most compilations, for instance the recently released Odyssey box set & the Move On Up release. Removing it only shaves off about 10 seconds or so, so I don't think it would be to create space. Trying to figure it out

Something out of the studio I suspect - the original with the piano intro is the one that's played at venues.

The version on the you tube clip is pretty close to the edit used on "Northern Soul Connoisseurs" CD  on Spectrum.

The CD only runs about 45 minutes so I don't know why they needed to edit "Love, Love, Love".

Yes, could be that only the master with the fade in still exists, which also begs the question why? 
Who was it that first edited it? 

My 45 also has the piano intro but I've heard one with a siren intro on a CD compilation (Northern Soul Connoisseurs, I think). Was that a separate release?
