soz if done before, am I right in remembering the mix on the flip of Willie Kendricks - change your ways, is different to the issued mix, if so where's it originate from?

Flip is "Carstairs" or what ? Sorry but I'm not sure after re-reading your quest what it's really about...

Sorry guys, though that the mix of carstairs  on the flip, of the boot of willie kendricks, was different to the released mix, listened to it again last night and not so sure now, lol.

What boot and what Carstairs track ? 

it's 'really does ' on a solid centre boot with Willie kenricks, dean Courtney and carstairs on b side

There's that odd spare sounding thing;

Yes I was goihg to mention that one, if that was the record the thread starter was on about. Another mix on the flip of the Inferno one also by the re-mixer master Tom Moulton. Those mixes were done back in the 70s.

I heard the remix today when it came up on a Spotify playlist of all things - terrible imo, the original record is a perfect ground breaking track that needs no remixing

My heart is trad and my mind is open. Here precisely my ears here tell me the same as you; not really worth the different re-mixing treatment. Sound on the very first white promo only distributed by Chess has even a better template mastering job than on the pink Red-Lite distributed ones !
