December 26, 200618 yr Sad sad sad sad sad sad Turned on the radio while I was cooking Xmas lunch to hear that my hero had died. The world needs big people like James Brown. I know that the rare soul scene is much more about the little people, forgotten & overlooked nuggets of occasional brilliance. But people like Mr Brown who actually did make it, and recorded brilliant record after brilliant record that actually got played, made soul and funk accessible and turned on people like me, a white boy in Nortern England, to the greatest music of all. Godfather of Soul, James Brown - The Creator, you may be dead but your music lives & you in it.
December 27, 200618 yr I was and still am deeply saddened...I had planned to see him live at B.B. Kings in NYC for New Years...
December 28, 200618 yr RIP James, what a soul legend. i have always said to people that he was a funk master some of the stuff was classic.
December 29, 200618 yr Sad when anyone passes away including Charlie Drake I saw a documentary about Brown some years ago Did he not go to prison acouple of times for some violent act or was it tax evasion? just that someone else has said he spoke to locals who said he was down to earth! On the music front very talented- reminds me of youth club days hearing sex machine , honky tonk but my favourite has to be "I lost someone" from the Hell album - Absolute class

At the age of 16, was arrested for theft and served 3 years in prison. Adrienne Rodriegues, his third wife, had him arrested four times on charges of assault between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Brown also served 2 years of a 6 year jail sentence after he led police on a car chase across the Georgia-South Carolina border in 1988. He was convicted of carrying an unlicensed pistol and assaulting a police officer, along with various drug-related and driving offenses." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Brown I can't find it, but I am pretty sure he was pardoned for that 1988 conviction. December 29, 200618 yr Watching the news last night drove it home how much he is still respected, his body was in the Apollo - very fitting! - and people had been queuing all night to pay their respects for the last time to this great Soul legend. Rest in peace James and keep it funky! Ste.
December 30, 200618 yr jesse jackson said JB had allways a sense of drama even when it's about what date to die. i've got so many cd's of james brown i can't tell,i'm not talking about the "living in america"stuff. i'm talking about his very groovy 70's funk he did with the JB's! he invented funk, his influence is still very present even now in dance music. strange thing is on the day he died i was in my local pub(italian cafetaria)we were drinking cappuchino and just talking about stuff, suddenly someone talks about some song on the radio(not james brown)there we go off talking about music, and there we generally dont talk about music at all, with us sits a guy who'm i allways meet there,i really didn't know what taste he got musically, suddenly he starts talking about his favorite music beeing james brown so we talk about james brown a bit not knowing he will die or died that same moment. so i come home check out the early news and there it was!!! james brown died today very strange coincidense
