January 12, 200718 yr Hey heres another one want to hear. I was speaking to Les Hare in King Bee Records earlier this week about the Johnny Taylor Blues in the Night "boot" when he tells me he plays a femail version which is the b side on a Dr Bird single, yes the reggea label. I say "is it soul", Les replies "R&Bish but as good/better then Johnny Taylor" I could wait untill Les does his soul night at Didsbury Golf Club to hear it, but just wonderd if anyone had a sound bite? Cheers John

January 13, 200718 yr KING GEORGE - I NEED YOU - AUDIO ARTS Have been led to believe this is the dogs bollocks, but never heard it, anyone? tis true the king george is awesome , cliff steele used to spin this in the mid 80s at THE DETROIT ACADEMICALS soul nights in northampton and ive heard him recently play it at lifeline , the rarest on the label by a mile and a quality tune , think kitch and mick h also have a copy

OF LOVE - REENA the jd abraham i first heard played at stafford storming uptempo other sides not bad either , i had a copy for about 6 months in t80s was a 35 quider but moved it on as imo very average tune sure the label was west coast but i may be wrong . my copy went to graham thomas in welsh wales
January 13, 200718 yr KING GEORGE - I NEED YOU - AUDIO ARTS Have been led to believe this is the dogs bollocks, but never heard it, anyone? Phillip... Phillip... Phillip... Andy Dyson played it when he DJ'd at your do at Burnley Football/cricket club... and it's been played many a time elsewhere when you've been there... i don't know PS: My fave tune ever btw

Cheers John I have the record, but I don't have the technology to make soundbytes, sorry John! A few people know about this version, it's been discussed clandestinely on here before. It's not as good as Johnnie Taylor's but it's better than certain other overrated soul records on Doctor Bird viz. Glen Miller.... If I tell you who it's by I'd have to kill you! But I can tell you that it's not credited as "Blues In The Night" on the label ... TONE

Cheers John There's definitely no Blues In The Night on Doctor Bird - they must have retitled it - can you try and find out the artist or the artist of the A side and I should be able to do a sound clip
January 13, 200718 yr Author Phillip... Phillip... Phillip... Andy Dyson played it when he DJ'd at your do at Burnley Football/cricket club... and it's been played many a time elsewhere when you've been there... i don't know PS: My fave tune ever btw Sorry for being a thicko Joan, but I still don't recognise it. Sometimes it's a case of not putting a name to the tune. Short sound file, but sounds like a really soulful tune and great production, Fantastic, I'll try and keep my ears open for it. Is it a fairly common play then Joan? How rare is it?

The ones i know of are Cliff Steele... Andy Dyson... and recently Mick H... not sure if Butch has one or not. Have to say Phil it's anything but a common play... unless one the DJ above are on and i happen to be there. First heard it from Ion... dread to think how many years ago now... that guy discovered some records... Just awesome Edited January 13, 200718 yr by jumpinjoan

"A Man Is Two Faced" - Patsy with Lynn Taitt and the Jets. It's on the other side of "Pure Soul" by Lennie Hibbert - Doctor Bird DB 1113. Goes for a fair bit among reggae collectors, because the 'A' is a nyahbinghi instrumental featuring Count Ossie. I've only ever seen three copies (including mine) in 35+ years of collecting reggae. Les Hare's copy makes it up to four. TONE Edited January 14, 200718 yr by TONY ROUNCE
