Ok people as have a bit more time available now to spend on the admin side of things on here, read the below...

One thing always felt needed an improvement on here,  is letting people know what's going on or/and how things work and the thinking behind things/actions/decisions

Plan is as 'admin' things happen will try and make a note in this topic just to inform and try and keep all members aware of everything soul source related on the admin and moderation side

To get things going a couple of member related admin tasks that were carried out

 

Active/inactive members

We do close accounts after 3 years inactivity but as just done we can reopen once aware that the member has logged in again (a monthly check) as long as its within a year of the closure, as we delete after 4 years

This is done as per data protection/privacy concerns, we are signed up to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under the Data Protection Act 2018. and do follow their UK GDPR guidance

 

Spam Members/Bots  - Getting Cleverer

There is an increase in the amount of posts by spam bots/members who appear to be getting cleverer all the time both thru ai and manual posting methods. sometimes hard to spot as they do quote other members posts in what at first seems a normal way but once you look at things deeper you can see what they are up to

If you do notice that a post by a new member has gone missing then there is a good chance that the member has been marked by us the site as a  'spammer' which will then automatically delete all the spammers content and closes the account

 

Ok that's about it for now as said will try and keep this 'admin' related topic both informative and worthwhile

a quick events timezone pass on

your browser should view the site using the timezone you are actually in

the event guide does make use of timezones

So if you are in say Spain on your browser all the event timings will show in Spanish time

Similar when adding events, it should use your browser timezone when adding an event, if needed you can select a different timezone

The idea is that all members by using the site agree to follow our guidelines and terms of use

If anyone would rather not follow them, then no worries, simply don't use the site

Don't expect everyone to agree with the guidelines but if you are posting/using this site features we do expect people to accept and follow our guidelines

been a while since posting updates in this topic

just kicking it up as a reminder for self its still here and to pass on some info

 

newsletter - a upgrade has caused sending issue

we do send out a regular as in weekly newsletter to approx 6000 members ( all subscribed) , however due to the upgrade only 30% have been getting it

Trying to resolve this but unfortunately the only way can test it is to try and send....

Which means some members may end up getting more copies of the newsletter every time we test to see if its resolved

Still trying to resolve, so a chance that you may get a few more in your inbox

Upgrade

The upcoming upgrade is slowly coming together, it's a major once every 10 years one, so currently a main thrust which means a fair bit of work before and after, but it all should be worth it, looking approx 7-14 days away. News item on it all will follow

Memberships

Ok not so positive but needs to be said imo, we do have what I consider open and fair terms and guidelines, which have been set up and evolved over the years to help us provide to all members a worthwhile  and an enjoyable place.

All members by using the site do agree to accept and follow these, if you don't then action may be taken, that's the bottom line

Our inhouse support feature is no more, discard by the software firm, so instead we now have the Support forum here
