This arrived today that I bought off a record sales list

I have a strong feeling that it’s a boot ‘cos it doesn’t play anywhere near as good as it looks.

The matrix numbers are correct & etched

But it doesn’t feel right, the run in & run out grooves are”messy” and there are dimples in the Vinyl, which I think would‘be been picked up if it was legit

As ever, any information would be greatly appreciated

It was booted,possibly even in the 70’s,personally the record doesnt look right,I hope Im wrong,but your right to be suspicious of it

Thanks for that, sometimes I’m lucky & my instincts are wrong but I don’t have the knowledge to be sure what this is

possibly but its a hard one to tell, attribute this to john manship the MM 1006 -1 etched are same on orig and boot but the giveaway is - the boot has a triangle in a circle etched in? - can't see that from your photos, also according to manship after the matrix no. the orig should have 're - 1mm' crossed out, can't see that either

Looks like I got an expensive boot instead of an original bargain

just found a mint original here text on inner grooves is much smaller mm 1006-1 re-1 ----- AA AA LINES THROUGH

also the label stamping is very different when I get time ill upload photo's

Boot.

The printing is pretty poorly done , no crisp corners and not 'black' lettering.

Real one to compare.

Definitely should have done that before spending the money.

I’ll stick this one in the replacement box & check all the details before I buy another

Return it or claim on PayPal if you used this method.

If dealer won't take it back then name and shame them

Dealer takes returns, but I have to pay postage back to US, that’ll be an arm and a leg.

I’ll put it down to experience and pass it on & describe it as what it is

If you used paypal then get a refund through them as it's a fake and you should be covered

Unfortunately it didn’t say original it was listed as Modern records & gave the matrix numbers, which is exactly what I got

Judging by the tiniest label details it looks exactly like the latest one on Popsike/Gripsweat , which lists it as being from a UK seller ... ?

Sounds like seller knew it was dodgy then if not making it clear. Still worth dropping paypal a message to try

Mine came from a dealer who sends a record list teach quarter

I’ve bid & bought from it before with no issues. Just got caught out this time

Hi there, I am sorry this as happened to you. Nobody likes to be' ripped off' =0(. There is a possibility that the seller did not know that it was not an original pressing. I believe you mentioned that you have bought records off them before & there's never been an 'issue'. It might be worth contacting them & explaining the situation . There's a chance they could issue you a refund or send you another record approx the same value you spend on that one or at the very least a 'credit note' you could use in the future. If anything it would give a strong indication of where the 'record dealer's' moral compass lies so to speak... Wishing you the Best possible out come=0)

Yes, it must be a boot. I saw hundreds of copies of it when it was out. ALL the copies I saw had dark, uniform, solid, black print. This was definitely taken from a photograph. Also, in the beginning rung of the trail, all my copies have" MM 1006 -1 RE - 1 no Monarch triangle. I've seen just " MM " crossed out with double lines, and some with an extra RE -1 along with the MM, with both crossed out. But " MM 1006- RE-1" in the remaining accepted markings.

The copy in your picture has far too many run in grooves on the outside before the record starts. The originals have normal run groove spacing, as shown in this picture.
