Very true Mark. Mind you, i'm not saying there's anything wrong with the Joe i'm a Mexican Jama, a very pleasing hum along type of a number.

Well, can`t see the Tranells being a 4000 UKP 45 but I understand that there are people willing to pay that sum...and it definitely (at the moment) is rarer but the result with Joe Jama really had me for a while...I mean it never sold for anything near that on ebay...

I know the Tranells has been a big record for years, and that it sold for over 3K at Manship's auction recently, and now on ebay, but when did it become so expensive? Did not this 'use to be' more in the region of £1000 - £1500?

Yes, it was less than that to start with. I got one of the first two that were found, & to be honest when it arrived & I had a listen to it I stuck it on the shelf for a couple of years, didn't think it was that good. Meanwhile it was being played elsewhere as the Philadelphians c/up. It was only when I heard it in a large hall that it hit me how good it was, records can sound so different in a big hall compared to your front room. Only problem was, meanwhile i'd swapped it with my mate. Good news was he let me have it back again.

Exactly what I thought, I recall it being hammered to death at a couple of UK events I attenden something like 5-6 years, or more, ago. Someone I spoke to a few years back also said that at the time "everyone who wanted a copy and was willing to pay around £700 got one". Oh well, now it's £3.500 apparently.

I am sure he didn't literally mean EVERYONE, but that was what he said. Everyone in certain circles at the time would perhaps be more appropriate. I think you understand what I mean anyway. Maybe there was a small handful or something around at the time, I dunno.

The white guy hails from North Carolina and was responsible for the heavy duty piano - almost a la Earl Van Dyke in style.

He was more a session musician than anything else but, notably, was also a member of The Ambassadors - Too Much Of A Good Thing, Pee Vee - again, playing keyboards.

He is still in contact with a couple of the surviving Trannells, I vaguely recall that the girl member sadly died at quite a young age.

Dont know cos I never asked the question but maybe he did brew a mean coffee!!?

Hammered? Maybe by the same couple of DJ's. Like Ady says never around in quantity and still probably ten or less known copies.

If you hear a record something like 4 times in one night I think you can say it is being 'hammered', don't you agree? Great record anyway...
