What records do you rarely if ever heard palyed out that you would love to dance to either again or for the first time?

It may be an underplayed neglected oldie, an overlooked gem, or even God forbid an unreleased track that has only been issued on a CD or compilation. (the only time CDs should be played IMO is if the tune was only released on the CD or compilation as wasnt released back in the 6ts/7ts).

Perhaps you want to hear a little more 7ts or Crossover in a main room. What records are due a reactivation or simply need exposure for the first time?

Here's a few I haven't heard out in a long time and a few Ive never heard out. I would like a chance to dance to these again or for the first time. Please DJ'S get out some of those gems you havent played in years or just because a record is cheap and available dont overlook it. So many sounds never get played these days.

...Is it that as the crowds have got older, then the tempo has decreased in order to accomodate the crowd (and aging legs)?..

I'd dance to those particular two, even if it killed me! (and it probably would, as almost happened when I attempted to do justice to Bobby Garrett's "My Little Girl" several months back!)

Loved the Lou Courtney side in it's day (bought a copy from Blue Max, C.1973) and Lee David is on just about all of my own personal Northern tapes!

(What about Little Johnny Blair? I used to love that too, and it's more my tempo these days!)

I think you'll find that this is a UK phenomenon Ian. The US and Continental European fans still like like it loud and fast Mate. Thank God.

I thought that there may be generational aspects to the speed of the records played. Given that the average age of Northern Soulers was in their teens in the early 70's, I just wondered whether the beat has slowed down to compensate for older legs!

The last few gigs I've been to, I've noticed that the tempos are considerably slower than 30 odd years ago.

I mean CAN anyone in the UK dance to "I've Gotta Find Me Somebody", "You Don't Mean It" or "Being Without You" these days LOL or is it too knackering? I've never really danced so I don't know...........

Yup still do - take your point on the energy required.Funnily enough Ian it's easier to dance to a fast tune because the beat tends to be more constant.I also find people seem to be having a better time on the floor when they're dancing to the more uptempo tunes.I had forgotten how much energy was required on the following until jiggin' to 'em again recently:

lots of great records on here, but it's down to where you go, lot's of comments like god ain't heard that in ages, but a lot of the tunes I hear out not all by any means, but like I said a lot depends where you go and which part of the country you live in. It can be hot somewhere and ice cold in another.

I heard the Masters - "I need you love" in the car the other day and thought I haven't heard that played out in a while, sounded so good by the way, but I wouldn't be suprised in someone came on here and said it's standard play somewhere.

I still like the majority of records I hear on a night out to be uptempo. I do however, like a healthy dose of mid tempo 7ts/crossover to be thrown in 3/4 of the way through an evening.

2 great tunes them Max big in the day and no way should they be forgotten.

too true bri, one mention & the price can double!! i've got quite a few but i don't think i'll mention them! just play them when i'm out & see what happens, bet that ian's got em stashed in the back of the garage!! it does make you think that people who started on the scene say at the end of wigan & into stafford era may never have heard some of these great oldies!!

Can you work out some accurate Cats playlists from those days Max? It's LONG overdue!

I have dug a lot of these out over the last couple of nights, and to be honest, there is a good reason why some of them are not played.

One I have been giving some stick recently is Billy Joe Young "I've Got You On my Mind Again" It was a Torch sound, and was re-released in around 73 on Surrey or Sussex (!)

Never heard it played out since then.
