Alton Ellis did two versions in 1970 - one for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One and again for arch-rival Duke Reid.

Winston Francis also did a version for Studio One.

All 3 very soulful Jamaican versions.

A cheesy version by Kenny G turned up in 1986...

well can anyone tell me of the California Raisns are actually that cartoon group because i remember watching a cartoon with the same name and they released a record of I Heard it Through the Grapevine

The answer but it's not soul is Yesterday is the most covered track i believe and if you think about it i bet there's a fair few soul versions out there

Unchained Melody is a very big track that's been recorded so many times too that i keep finding versions i own and it mounts up to at least 20 - 30 versions
