My dear fellow Soul Sourcers I need some suggestions for a tattoo I want. It will be a 45 Soul single on my arm. It has to be a Deep Soul or Beat Ballad record. Thing is that I have searched and searched and searched but every tune I love has a very boring artwork. Any suggestions for a great tune with great artwork would be very appreciated. Pics would be cool. if anyone has other Soul related tats would be interesting to have a look

IMHO why not buy the record 'instead' of the Tattoo?...

You get bored with the record you sell it and get your cash back - not quite as easy with a Tattoo...

well, if I love the record I'll buy it anyway at some point, depending on the price..ha. I never get bored of a record I really love. Dogs?? I don't get that one..Don't try and talk me out of my idea!!!

Hmmm also though about a 45 design but then something written in it that looks like a labelling of a tune but isnt. If you people get what I mean..

Just like a Dog - A Tattoo is for Life not just for Christmas..

How many of us (and I include myself here) had Tattoos done in the past that were considered (then) either cool/trendy/clever/Hard/loving (insert your reason of choice) and now regret having them done?.

What you choose to adorn your body with is of couse your choice - but will said tattoo still look great in 10 or 20 years when it (along with it's surroundings) doesn't perhaps look quite as good?...

Just a thought thats all..

There was a thread on here a while back about tats can't remember what it was called but maybe some idea's in there for you it was probably in freebasing might be worth trying to find it.

i think you shouldn't get a specific record tattooed unless it's been your favorite record for at least 5 years or more. people's tastes change, even once amazing records don't sound that great anymore after many listens. having to ask which one to get is a bad sign.

Hmm I see your point. I think I'll go with the idea with making it look like a tune rather than having an actual tune. there is certain records I really love and I always will but the design of the label is too plain or straight. I meant more that people could post pictures of labels which look really nice. is there even much nice label artwork in rare soul or didnt they have enough cash for that? carnival records has some nice designs.

Ken, funny you should mention the Wigan thing..... a few years back at a Soul Night organised by Francis T and boys in Kidderminster they had booked Russ Winstanley to play, the place was packed with normals and after he'd finished his spot said normals started coming over for his autograph, strange but true. Then this fella with his girlfriend appears and he ask's Russ to sign the bottom of her back, I didn't watch him signing her back cos she was wearing hot pants and looked great but the boyfriend copped me looking, so quick as flash I asked what was gonna happen when the ink washed off, he wasn't bothered because he had her booked in the day after to have it tattoed over; so this girl in her thirties is supposedly walking around with winstanley on her back all the time, poor cow

The one with 45's around the arm is my hubby's, he picked them for the labels the only one with the record name and artist is the front one. You could try popsike you will need to put name of the record or artist and it will show you the labels.

Soultown is a great looking label, just make sure it's a record that really did come out on Soultown and not one of the many boots that were done on it.

If you want something non-specific why not go for the "Deep Soul" label? - it's intricate, quite colourful, and would translate well as a tattoo.

the only deep soul label scan i saw was purple. great artwork though..and the tunes are also released on other labels such as mala and peacock. which ones are the original ones then? really nice tunes though.anyone got another scan?
