Received a record in the post today, described as having a 'small edge chip' not extending into playing area. So what would you think of as being a small edge chip? Just sent the seller bit of a stroppy message and then thought I might be just a fussy git?

This small chip is 2cm long and OK doesn't go into the playing grooves but is so close it's impossible to cue without missing part of the intro:

I wouldn't have said small!

NOT a small edge chip - surely must affect play (even if a small effect ). Definately that chip must have a big effect on price

Ask for your money back if I were you - 45 NOT as described.

Small would be a small triangular chip measured about 2mm (not cm) at it's widest part IMVFHO.

Hi it is my strong opinion you should send it back as this is missing a large amount of vinal not as a chip that he desrcibed? as much as you want the recored it is only desirable point that if you block cover the gap you can use it to DJ with and no you are not playing a pressing sadley I would value your record at £2 only if you disagree ask a dealer to buy it of you, the dealer you got it from should refund your money and give you the record. I wish you luck and be very asertive with the so called dealer. MIND THE GAP DAVE KIL

I personally wouldn't have a huge problem with the 'chip'... as long as the structural integrity of the record isn't compromised (as with a hairline crack), then the 45 serves it's purpose...

It might be worth £2 if it is a £5 record mint. If there was a £100 record on my want list and it came up at a good price in clean condition with a 'chip', I'd grab it.

Maybe I'm alone on this one... anyone have some nice chipped 45s for £2?

I would be ok with it IF the price reflected the condition (at least 60% of book price knocked off) AND it didn't affect play. If it affected play as you describe then i would want a full refund. On top of refund i think the seller should reimburse the cost of you sending it back (real bug-bear of mine at the moment is sellers lying about condition - and having to send sh*te back and paying the postage )

I have a few my fist copy of Gene McDaniels walk with a winner is like the one in the photo, I bout it from Pete Wid at the Casino early 77 I remember it clearly he had 6 UK issues that were £15 each Day, Mick S bout 2 of them when I found out he was selling them my copy was the last copy when we looked at it it was chipped with the broken bit in the sleeve it was a must have record for me at the time as no body really had heard it I paid £5 for it when I got home I played it and there was about half a turn of dead wax before the record started whoopee I have still got it and yes I have a RED & white DEMO but I still play it now and again to me its a priceless piece of Wigan Memorabilia and has a good provenance of nostalgic value what do you think Also I have quite a few rare US records and only £ weeks ago I was offered £150 from Rob P for it at Wolves record Fair. so the golden rule is in the real world of collecting 45s the true value is £2/5 but on the RARE RECORD SOUL SCENE it can be any thing as you may never find a copy again DAVE KIL

Bought a sealed copy of Timothy Wilson album from a dealer in the usa , when it arrived it was badly warped but playable with no sound distortion

, neither me or him could of known due to it's sealed condition , I e-mailed him on receipt and stated that I was'nt having a winge BUT in future sacrifice the SEALED avenue for checking the vinyl as some of his future customers may be a it arsey !!

He was gutted and sent me half of my payment in return , worried I'd slag him off to uk buyers , I returned it in good faith and said no worries , that's life ! He could'nt believe it , having dealt with perfectionist usa dealers for years .

Yes , we all want mint bargain vinyl ! , especially when on occassion you have to pay top dollar , but ebay is'nt called evil bay for a reason kids !!

i bought a sealed otis clay / the only way is up lp.

looked mint in every way until i went to play it,

the needle just skips right across the vinyl,

i told the guy the same thing about opening and playing to make sure the item plays,
