New 45 - The Originals - Young Train - MD Records - Out Now
Details of a new release from MD Records. The Originals - Young Train - MDJW 003 The third release on MDs new 45 series, The MD Records Blacktop Series. Press release and audio follows below... In the third of the series, we move to 1973 Detroit, we have been so excited bringing this through to pressing and it has been a long but exciting and rewarding road and we hope you enjoy listening to this this 45 taken directly from the Universal master tapes and brought to you 48 years after its initial release on promo only format. Now available under licence and blessings from Universal Music Group on the Black Top series from us. Is it good – oh yes – but don’t take our word for it, crank the volume up and hit play. The A side – Young Train is a fabulous funkedged dancer with a message for us all even today, driven by the constant wah wah guitar and bongos. flip it over for a feelgood crossover dancer that has already been getting radio airtime on some of the UKs best soul stations. Young Train by the Originals. This incredibly rare 45 is a poignant reminder that 48 years later the struggle continues today for equality and harmony for all. The title “Young Train” is a brilliant collaboration of using Colemans surname and a hark back to the freedom songs enshrined in the blues and soul history of Black America, think Freedom Riders, Southbound train, Midnight train to Georgia to name but a tiny number. It captured the imagination of Detroit leading to the inauguration of the First Black Mayor of Detroit in 1974. Coleman Young captured the hearts and minds of the people of Detroit, some of his actions and associates led to questions around his fitness for office, but the moment in time lives forever in this exclusively rare 45 now brought to you with the blessings of Universal Music Group via MD Records. On a final note, it is in many ways incredibly sad that this anthemic song still holds a valid call to action in its message in 2021. So, turn the volume up and get on board the “Young Train” for democracy and equality. Big thanks go out to Karl “Chalky” White for material used in the sleeve. All aboard for the third release in the Blacktop series from the MD Collective. Video Trailer Availability Available now via all the usual suspects including both MD Records own website and our own Source store

Upcoming 45s - Cannonball Records and Tesla Groove Labels
Word in all about two upcoming limited issue 45s from Cannonball Records and their Tesla Groove Imprint Listen and read below... The Words Of Wisdom And Truth Revue - You Got Me Smiling / Just Another Face - CBLL035 7"/45rpm 250 copies pressed Out July 2021 After the release of the charts hitter “Don’t Need Your Love” earlier this year it’s now time to follow up with the last two songs out of the reel to reel tape recorded by The Words at Talun & Trc Studios in Indianapolis in 1982. I feel I really need to explain what went on with the original recordings though. Please be patient and ber with me. A magnetic tape recorder is made basically by two parts, one electronic and one mechanical. I’ll leave the electronics out of this as it has no relevance here, to talk about what occurred with the mechanical, specifically with the “heads”, which are the most important part of the recording action. They are components to be treated with great care, especially when they need to be cleaned; their good condition strictly depends on the functioning of the entire recorder and - in part - also on the life of the tape. In this case the tape was found god knows where and played again exactly 40 years after the recording session, on a reeltape player which had good part the “heads” very damaged. The artists themselves transferred it on digital doing it with what they had on hand, that is basically nothing. It resulted in a stereo soundfile which had the right channel completely flat. Basically the music could be heard on the left ear only, full of that noise only a cheap and malfunctioning Akai could provide. It took a hell of a restoration to make this second release possible and we hope you will appreciate the undertaking well beyond the music, that is awesome on its own. Thanks to the first release we think you already know a lot about Herman Slaughter and The Words of Wisdom. For those who are new to these artists, this awesome band started earning some good popularity at the crossing of the seventies and eighties. Stable artists at the legendary Lamp - the so called “Naptown’s Motown” - these guys were part of the sparkling funk soul scene of Indianapolis alongside the likes of The Vanguards and The Fabulous Souls. Support The Words of Wisdom and bring home one of the last slices of original soul from Napptown’s legacy. King Bee - Bee To The Flower 2021 / Bingeries - TSL013 7"/45rpm 250 copies pressed Out July 2021 Contemporary hard driven Jazz Funk from the north of England. Bee To The Flower, initially released under the influence of Newcastle’s finest Warren Thompson in a much slower and kind of stepped down version has been rearranged and recorded again by the band expressly for Tesla Groove International at the Loft Studios. We have been on this project for a long while and the biggest thing we blame covid for is the goddamn delay it forced into the development of artistic projects, of which the physical final release is only the latest of the steps. Driving (and very creative) basslines, a beautiful and almost psychedelic Fender Rhodes intercalate with a vibrafone played with such a mastery I could only remind of the great Pharoah Sanders at the time of his performances with Lonnie Liston Smith and Nathaniel Betties, one of the greatest afro percussionists of all times. All of this on such a hitting drumming I just can’t wait to fire it out of a proper sound system. Created in 2011 by north-east based Dave Wilde and Chris Jelly, the original jazz/funk fusion sounds of this seven piece Newcastle based band have carved a niche as some of the finest exponents of the genre in the UK. The band has given exciting dance inducing live performances up and down the country, at Band on the Wall, Hoochie Coochie and many more, supporting the likes of Craig Charles, Roy Ayers and Lonnie Liston Smith along the way. New material has been in the making for quite a while, but after the enforced lockdown, King Bee are ready to release their latest recordings at long last. Worth waiting for. Press Release - Sal & Pops - I Surrender
Just had this sent in to us... Press Release The Northern Soul Sisters are back! I SURRENDER – THE NEW SINGLE FROM SAL & POPS Sal & Pops are two young singers hailing from Stoke-On-Trent, UK. Outside of their own music releases, their social media following is exploding. This is mainly due to their “Northern Soul in The Garden”-videos where this dynamic duo dances to classic and obscure northern soul scene tracks in the back yard and shares it with an enthusiastic global audience on both YouTube and TikTok. Sal & Pops met while performing alongside each other in the Shakespearean theatre ‘The New Vic’ from 2009 onwards. Their friendship grew when they joined The “Jill Clewes Academy of Theatre Arts”. At college they were often paired together in shows because of their similar performance style and connection. They were often described as the female versions of Ant and Dec. Sal was raised on everything from Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues to Motown and Northern Soul (her mum was the co-president of The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain), while Pops has always been a free spirit when it comes to music. Their intense love and passion for Northern Soul led them to dig deeper and deeper into this vibrant scene and after some footage of them dancing at a Northern Soul all-nighter went viral on Facebook, they decided to start a YouTube-channel completely dedicated to the genre. After an invite to feature on recordings by The Northern Soul Orchestra in the summer of 2020 - but several times delayed because of national lockdowns - their first two singles with this great collective marked the start of a new chapter in Sal & Pops' musical journey. “What If” and "Try My Love Again” were released during the first quarter of 2021 and were both extremely well received by the international underground soul scene. Now it’s time for a new single from these glorious soul sisters. On June the 4th Sal & Pops are releasing their version of the northern soul uptempo dance floor anthem “I Surrender”, originally released by the legendary Eddie Holman 1967. And watch out for some serious moves in their new northern soul garden video too!!!

New Kent Select 45 - The Opals - Can't Give It Up - Kent Select City 072
A new Kent Select 45 has just been released. The Opals - Can't Give It Up - Kent Select City 072 First time out, Okeh, Billy Butler are just some of the keywords that spring up, but as always the 'official' release notes tell the story far better... Release Notes Chicago soul girl group the Opals released three exquisite singles on the Okeh label between January 1964 and February 1965, all of them produced by Carl Davis, in addition to which they also recorded background vocals for other artists. When Tony Rounce compiled Kent’s CD of Billy Butler’s Okeh recordings in 2007, unexpectedly found on the mastertape transfer of Billy’s ‘Right Track’ were two unidentified tracks we eventually ascertained were by the Opals. The uptempo ‘Can’t Give It Up’ is taken at a perfect dance beat for Northern Soul discos. It was written by Billy Butler and Gerald Sims, and likely recorded around the time of the ‘Right Track’ session in 1966. On the flip is the beautiful, mid-tempo ‘End My Suffering’, which bears a resemblance to Marvin Smith’s ‘Time Stopped’, also from 1966 and produced by Carl Davis. This is the first release for both tracks and will appeal to fans of many genres of vintage soul music. ADY CROASDELL @Ady Croasdell Video Promo Availibilty Was a bit of a brief delay but seems now available via all the usual renegades including Ace Records themselves... https://acerecords.co.uk/cant-give-it-up-end-my-suffering and of course, also available right now via our own Source Store
