ok have had to hide the video uploaded by @Chalky apologies for any mess around but... do have to be careful with the hosting of videos directly via uploads on here otherwise we (the site) could end up getting a copyright claim notice especially when the video is already blocked in uk on youtube etc if am right the geezer who did the one uploaded also redid it to get round the copyright claim on yt..? -

Soul Boy - Our Lives Series 4 Soul Boy - Our Lives - A teenager in care finds a home on Nottingham’s Northern Soul scene. Details of an upcoming real life documentary due to be shown on BBC One on Wednesday 27th May 2020. Billed as a 'heart warming' film this 30 minute documentary follows teenager Anthony Flavin as he finds his place on Nottingham’s Northern Soul scene. Here's the BBC info... Northern Soul is more than just music to Anthony Flavin - it’s a way of life. Anthony has grown up in care from the age of six. His great passions in life are music, fashion and films from the sixties and seventies, and his love for Northern Soul music tops them all. This heartwarming film follows Anthony in the run up to his 18th birthday as he finds his place on Nottingham’s Northern Soul scene. With help from his keyworker, Luke, and a collection of Northern Soul friends, he’s about to take his first steps as a DJ and towards an independent life. It won’t be easy - the Soul Boy will need his new Soul 'family' more than ever. As Anthony prepares for his first DJ set, his friends are there to make sure he looks and sounds the part. Classy cobbler Pete 'The Shoe' Bullock kits him out with some fancy hot-stepping shoes; there’s a DJ masterclass from best friends and soul mates Karen and Jason Roberts; and a trip down memory lane with legendary Northern Soul DJ Richard Searling, who gets Anthony on the decks and the dancefloor at Blackpool’s famous Tower Ballroom. A popular Northern Soul venue is hosting Anthony’s 18th birthday party and his DJing debut. Has he mastered the decks in time to get this discerning crowd on the dancefloor? An Interview with Richard Searling, Manchester, 13th April 2004 Manchester Digital Music Archive "One of the leading lights of the Northern Soul movement, Richard initially made his name at Va-Va's in Bolton, where he gained major kudos for unearthing one of the scene's defining tracks, 'Tainted Love' by Gloria Jones (subsequently to become a multi-million selling cover version by Soft Cell). Forming one of the most famous DJ partnerships of all, when he hooked up with Russ Winstanley at Wigan Casino, Richard is a Soul aficionado of the highest order." Wright passed away on the morning of May 10, the singer’s niece confirmed to Heavy. Wright’s cause of death has not been made public. On her official profile on Universal Music’s website, it’s written that Wright “influenced a generation of female singer-songwriters and continues to influence the world of hip hop.” Wright’s death comes a week after singer Chaka Khan had asked fans to pray for the Florida legend’s health. Khan tweeted, “Calling all my #PrayWarriors | My beloved sister, Betty Wright @MsBettyWright, is now in need of all your prays. “Que Sera, Sera | Whatever Will Be, Will Be.” In Jesus Name We Pray for Sister Betty. All My Love Chaka.”

Roll over Beethoven - The Chess Records Saga Legends Chicago's Chess Records was one of the greatest labels of the post-war era, ranking alongside other mighty independents like Atlantic, Stax and Sun. From 1950 till its demise at the end of the 60s, Chess released a myriad of electric blues, rock 'n' roll and soul classics that helped change the landscape of black and white popular music. Chess was the label that gave the world such sonic adventurers as Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf and Etta James. In this documentary to mark the label's 60th anniversary, the likes of Jimmy Page, Mick Hucknall, Public Enemy's Chuck D, Paul Jones and Little Steven, as well as those attached to the label such as founder's son Marshall Chess, pay tribute to its extraordinary music and influence. The film reveals how two Polish immigrants, Leonard and Phil Chess, forged friendships with black musicians in late 1940s Chicago, shrewdly building a speciality blues label into a huge independent worth millions by the end of the 1960s. Full of vivid period detail, it places the Chess story within a wider social and historical context - as well as being about some of the greatest music ever recorded, it is, inevitably, about race in America during these tumultuous times.
