Beatin Rhythm - Manchester moves
Latest online edition of Manchester Confidential features a very well known record shop moving to a new location "Recently it looked as though Beatin' Rhythm, the Tib Street record shop, might leave our city for good. Names that spring to mind qualifying as regular customers (having been in at least twice and bought something). Morrissey, Wayne Hemingway, Johnny Marr, Christopher Eccleston, Pete Doherty, Lily Allen, Mark Lamarr, Stuart Maconie, Chemical Brothers, Grandmaster Flash.... It looked as if model of retail distinctiveness was calling it a day. This would have been a nightmare for shopping diversity..." Full story and new location can be read here Beatin' Rhythm saved for the nation Classic Manchester shop finds new home http://www.mancheste...ation_15583.asp Footnote: 1. Can visit the Beating Rythmn website via link below which also features an interesting Tim Brown article http://www.beatinrhythm.com/ 2. Soul Junction - New 45 - New Website - Invitations out Monday
The Invitations It Was A Woman/Heavenly Love Soul Junction 509-X out Monday 11th Oct 2010 Hot on the heels of the recent David Hudson Lp release, Soul Junction continue the stepping up of the pace with yet another fresh release. Their latest 45 features another familiar name - The Invitations - and see's Soul Junction yet again not only stepping up the pace but keeping the quality levels high featuring both rare and previously unissued quality soul music Soul Junction has also just launched their very own web prescence with the recent opening of the new Soul Junction web site. Featuring all the latest Soul Junction news along with information and clips on all their releases to date Can visit via the link below http://www.souljunctionrecords.co.uk/ The Invitations - It Was A Woman/Heavenly Love - Soul Junction 509-X Press Release Info The Invitations came to prominence through their classic 60's soul recordings, "What's Wrong With Me Baby" and "Skiing In The Snow" on Dynovoice records. More recently their second release for the MGM label ""Watch Out Little Girl" has grown in popularity within the Northern Soul scene. After the groups association with MGM finished they then signed with the Diamond label, releasing just one single "Got To Have It Now". The Diamond label was owned by Joel Diamond who during the early 70's re-signed the Invitations to his Polydor distributed ,"Silver Blue" label. Where they cut a string of excellent releases with the likes of "Look On The Good Side" and "They Say The Girls Crazy" ensuring the group continued popularity. A later 70's release the funky "We Don't Allow (no sitting In Here)" would appear on the Red Greg label. During the late 60's and early 70's the group were regular visitors to the UK, firstly performing under the stage name of the "American Drifters" before eventually reverting to the Invitations on later tours. They returned to the UK in 2005 to perform at the Assembly Rooms Derby followed by the Hemsby" Motown" Weekender. In 2009 the group under their own Invite records banner released the" Missing You" album. Although being little more than a vanity project to sound out a potential market with a limited pressing run of only 100 copies the album did contain some excellent songs. It is from this album that we have taken the following songs "It Was A Woman" backed with "Heavenly Love" which incidentally only appears on the album as a instrumental version, for our next Soul Junction 45 release. Release Date: Monday October 11th 2010 Invitations - It Was A Woman/Heavenly Love -

Soul Essence Website Updated (frontpage)
Soul Essence website has had a going over Main thrust is next years weekender #29 - April 8th, 9th & 10th - 2011 so there's booking forms and al that but there's also a look back at the past along with some photos, reviews etc So I finally got off my lazy backside and updated the site. The dates for Essence 28 are now set, so why not iAdd them to your iPhone using iCal and iSay iSay iSay. Essence 27 was a rip roaring success as usual, good music (very true), good beer (true), fine dining (false) and fine wines (very false). The Gouch managed an awesome lounge over the weekend (check out his top picks here), and I was to be found winding down to the music in there on Saturday afternoon before winding up again for the Saturday night. link below https://www.soul-essence.co.uk/ Original article was posted in the Soul Source Article/News feature view article in its original format (c/w images etc)

John Legend and the Roots - Wake Up
John Legend has teamed up with The Roots to push out a covers album with a difference - its actually quite interesting and enjoyable. The album is made up of their takes on "socially/politically conscious Soul classics from the sixties and seventies". As can see by the track listing below its quite a varied selection and is billed as being inspired by the recent US presidential elections. Highlights from here being the versions of Baby Hueys "Hard Times", the take of "Compared To What " and the title track Also includes one original track - Shine Can preview all tracks via a page on John Legends site (link below) 1. The Gathering - Northern Soul - Revisited (frontpage)
Was it really 2 years ago that C4 broadcast this short 3 minute film featuring Stevie Cato on a trip to Soul Revolution? Colin O'Toole the director of this short series of short documentary films has just posted all 4 fillms on vimeo. Seeing that the clip that was featured on Soul Source at the time was all a bit lo- fi it has to be a good excuse to revisit this tip top film and also highlight the others in this series. Have embedded the main soul related one "the gathering" below View on Vimeo. best viewed in "full screen" ( just hit the full screen button) You can view all the four films in this series via the link below and can read the full words (a clip follows below) on what the thinking and the aim was behind this series. In 2008 I directed four short documentary films for the '3 Minute Wonder' strand on Channel 4. The core theme of each film centred on the idea of a gathering, be it a religious pilgrimage, a nightclub, a protest or one mans mission to save his town. It was my mission to create these simple docs with a cinematic approach and as a reflection of how docs in the 60's and 70's even in the 1980's would have been shot on film using quality.... Can read the rest of the words and see the other films at the link below https://vimeo.com/15009347 Original article was posted in the Soul Source Article/News feature view article in its original format (c/w images etc)
