  1. Also out of interest, Russ, what sort of titles did he have behind the cardboard divider.. Were they like top 500 45's, or other rare collectable types of disc?? Not that I can confess to knowing Mike well at all personally (if indeed it is Mike we refer to..) but on the occasions I have dealt with him over about 15 or so years he never struck me, or came across as, the sort of guy to 'display his feathers' just for the sake of it. Putting another possible slant on the scenario - I have certainly been 'guilty'of taking a box of rarities from the collection to venues. I never had them openly displayed in any sales box area though.. Rather, I took them when chasing bookings - so as to demonstrate to promoter's the sorts of tunes I would look to play out and to demonstrate the fact they were originals as opposed to boots/carvers/reissues. But it does maybe provide a possible solution to the conundrum presented in the opening post by Russ ?
  2. That's it.. Mike Warburton !! Had several dealings with him over the years - all good. He really likes his 'early' transitional type soul music. Last time I saw him was 6/7 years ago? at Steve Long's soul nite somewhere up near Chester or Warrington - can't remember now, but the night catered solely for that particular genre.

  4. Being exactly 4 years to the day I hung up the headphones (in the main room at Rugby, as it happens) I was very grateful and very excited to be offered the opportunity to again spin some vinyl in the 'Alternate Room' of Sian & Dean's excellent Benn Hall 'Niter, and include below my first playlist - for the 60 minutes between 10 & 11 pm.. 5. Sorry.. Posted in wrong place - will start new thread
  6. It was that time at Winsford Steve - toward the end of my last set.. Just after playing 'I Have No Choice' (J. Mae Matthews) and a smidgeon before (Lee McKinney) 'I'll Keep Holding On' kicked in.. At least, that's the last I can remember I'm good buddy, and hoping to have a catch up at Rugby on Saturday ?? Can't believe it'll be four years to the day I hung up the headphones & mic Sorry.. off topic - your fault Steve !!
  7. Phew !! Thanks for that Andy. So it was just my personal memory of the cut and my placing it in the 'blues' section of my already failing memory's filing system. At least I'm not TOTALLY insane.. YET !!
  8. Yes, sorry.. I was more thinking aloud in my reference to one and the same LP - I mistakenly assumed there to be two different LP's and two alt versions based on a pm I received and which I read more into than there actually was.. Are we all keeping up with my self ramblings ??
  9. Now I'm just totally confused !! Okay, the clip above is certainly more upbeat than the cut i referred to in my first post - and it's probably my recollection of it more than anything.. But I am now believing this is THE same track we are all talking about, as it is defo the same LP I had, and the one I was referring to regarding the bluesy production as opposed the down & dirty gritty r'n'b' production offered on the Midas 45 ?? Can anyone confirm if the Chi-Town Blues & Soul LP is a double??
  10. Well I never.. It's very kindly been pointed out to me that there is in fact a P-Vine Lp that DOES contain a version of Big Man the same tempo as the Midas 45 - with an extended intro to boot! The album I referred to is (from memory) a double album - a blues and R'n'B compilation.. Have to keep an eye out for the one with the extended intro now !! This vinyl lark doesn't get any easier, does it
  11. Ah, Yes - BUT.. I don't know if you have heard that version Andy - it is a very downbeat, bluesy take and nothing like the Midas 45 release, so BEWARE !!!
  12. I'd take it off your hands at a sensible price.. If you decide to unload it, of course
  13. Looking for clean copies of the below - please pm with details/price etc. Blenders 'Your Love Has Got Me Down/ 'Love Is A Good Thing (Marvlus 6010) Luther Ingram 'I Can't Stop/You Got To Give Love To Get Love' (KoKo 101) Payment via Paypal; Cash by post; Cash direct into local branch of your bank; TIA Fingers
  14. Great!! Any chance of a PM with what you have, price, condition, etc ?? Thanks, Fingers..
  15. Whether a legitimate reissue or an out and out counterfeit I don't know.. But remember John Mc (Kettering) having both real and 'not' real copies the same night at a Lifeline, Stables 'Niter around 4-5 years ago. If memory serves it was extremely difficult to tell them apart
  16. Looking for the following bits 'n' pieces and odds 'n' sods - PM's only please including details about condition; if 1st / 2nd issue; price; etc. etc. All sensible offers considered. Response within 48 hours. Payment via cash - either in person, or via my local branch of the sellers bank (details required). Ridiculous offers will be treated with an appropriate amount of ridicule & disdain.. and your details passed to the Soul Police immediately. You've been warned !! In no particular order of preference (and, although unlikely, worth mentioning anyway..) Any 'Real World' lump sum figure suggestion, for two or more of the five 45's, would receive immediate attention - with an offer involving all of them seeing me knock at their front door within the hour !! The Crow 'Your Autumn of Tomorrow' SORTED, THANKS Bobby Franklin 'The Ladies Choice' SORTED, THANKS Bobby Bell 'Drop Me A Line' SORTED, THANKS Patrinell Staten 'Little Love Affair' SORTED, THANKS Betty Wilson 'I'm Yours' Thanking you in anticipation.. Fingers
  17. The Global List that Dave (Louise) posted earlier shows it at 60p, with the list dated September 1974! If I read the posts above correctly they were original copies too..
  18. What's the 45?????
  19. A Little Love Affair cash waiting.. pm only please, with full details TIA Fingers
  20. Thank you for the feedback thus far peeps, and I concur with the sentiments about it being a 'bespoke' label as opposed 'official' given that it's 'output' appears (from my wife's digging at least, along with the comments on here) to consist predominantly of tracks that otherwise were either never issued on vinyl, or exist as studio acetates only. I think it's safe to say any 45's on this label design are simply carver type discs with a made-up label stuck on for aesthetic purposes - a cool label design it is too, I think at least. It seems the label is the conception of an individual from Spain(?), but an interesting (and clever) choice of name - when you delve into the origins for the term 'Flying Witch'. The resulting implication of which being that the guy behind it actually put considerable thought into his selection of it as a/his label name... Useless info really - but nonetheless interesting to this sad individual, at least (and obviously having nothing better to do with my time..)
  21. JM also auctioned my copy - must be 5-6 years ago now. Don't remember exact price but it sold for around £2.4k. I agree with Phil.. Turns up only on occasion, indicating that it rarity is a main contributing factor to any seldom seen copies when it does actually come to market.
  22. Anyone know anything about this label and/or it's output of 45's please? TIA Fingers
  23. Depends which hand though, surely.. If it's my left then 3 - but if my right hand then only two!?!
  24. Barbara Carr ' Shake Your Head' Chess - issue or DJ - Vg++ or better. Please pm with grade and price. TIA
