  1. Absolutely love Doo Wop, or to be more accurate I prefer to call it vocal harmony, loads of early Vibrations tracks fit the bill, especially the stuff on Checker or Okeh. Miracles, Dells, Showmen, Coasters and many many "Soul" groups started out as "Doo Wop" and some of their best work is from the early to mid 60s period ...........

  3. Embarrassed not really, but it seemed like a good idea 5 years ago, time to move on...........
  4. Great thread, as already said, it would be a shame to deprive yourself (and others) of all the excellent tracks that only exist on LP.......... Apologies to the thread starter, I have pinched this concept for a facebook group
  5. Smokey at his best...Ooh Baby Baby
  6. Love almost anything Acapella. One of my current favourites; The Servicemen - Are You Angry
  7. Here's mine..........
  8. One of my favourites this; As well as O C Smith and the Winstons there are versions by Bobby Womack, the Naturals and the Jades as well as lots of versions in other genres ie Reggae, Country etc
  9. Only my pillow knows how many tears I've cried Only my heart knows the awful hurt I feel inside
  10. Remember the original being played at Samanthas 1974 and I'm sure I can remember the Disco Demand version being played, might have been John Vincent, but its a long time ago and the memory struggles a bit ! By late 74 early 75 it had been dropped and no one would admit to owning it. Instrumentals were big at this time, Paul Humphries- Cochise and Mike Post- Afternoon of the Rhino, followed the same fate.
  11. Normaly only pay up to £25-£30, but a couple of years ago I paid £100 for the Poets-Two hearts, cos I just had to have it !
  12. It's either Retro records or Vinyl frontier, I went in them both and its just as you say, loads of albums, a few 45s, but mostly 80s pop stuff or Country music. I had a look in the "unsorted" boxes in Rock and Roll heaven, however they were all in alphabetically labled boxes so they must have been picked over, there was quite a bit of Funk, (James Brown, Parliaments etc in there) but not really what I was looking for. Happy Hunting
  13. https://www.mapquest....rlando&state=FL Is this any good ? Another good tip is to look out for yard sales and garage sales, and thrift stores but most of all talk to people you never know were it will lead. Almost the highlight of my holiday was to hear The Shells Baby oh Baby played at full blast on the decks in rock and roll heaven, all the hairs on my neck stood up, just could'nt believe I was hearing it and were I was (sad eh)
  14. Was there last month, and managed to visit a few, found nowt exciting, I did buy a few early Doo Wop 45s from Rock and Roll heaven and had an interesting chat with the guy there. He was used to folk from the UK looking for the 60s uptempo stuff. Don't go to Soul train records, its been shut down for about 2 years, and in a very scary area of downtown Orlando, we dare'nt get out of the car ! found out later from a taxi driver there had been 9 shootings this year there. Visited a couple more, loads of rock and country cant remember were. I will try to post the addressess on here later if I get time, but I just googled record stores Orlando an it came up with a site with a list ! Just remember to have fun looking and have a great holiday, its a wonderfull place with loads to see. If you get chance go to see the Blue man group at Universal studios, its an incredible show.
  15. So many great songs from Levi. Awesome voice !!! Check out Don't bring back memories vastly underated track and hardly ever played out !
  16. Great thread. So many to choose from, and some great choices already. For me I never tire of hearing Four Tops - Baby I need your loving. The bit when Levi sings "when you see me smile" about 1:30 in, you can almost hear the tears in his voice. Another one would be, Color him father - The Winstons. Catch me after a couple of drinks with this one and I'm blubbering, Lol.

  18. Well said..........
  19. Young lady at her first time at a Soul event, said to me, how do you / they dance like that, my answer was. You take thousands of years of oppression and slavery, compress it into a little black disc and then try to pour it back on to a dance floor through your feet. She just gave me a blank look and walked away, Lol Just illustrates the point that its all about the passion you feel, and not how you look...... Love to see the really good dancers though...........
  20. Probably like most, I have managed to aquire many of the records that I have aspired to own over the years, and although there are still many more on the wants list, there is one that I have resigned myself to never owning........... The Poets Wrapped around your finger..........
  21. 14th Birthday in 1969. Marvin Gaye - Too Busy Thinking About My Baby - b/w - Wherever I Lay My Hat, which I loved just as much as the A side untill that upstart from Luton spoiled it for me............. Little did i know, Vinyl, Motown, Soul.........start of a lifetime addiction............
  22. I just use three words "You would'nt understand"
  23. Best evening 's viewing for a long time. I love this type of documentry that really delve in to the roots of Soul music and show how the music was shaped. You could see the influence that Sam Cooke got from Sister Rosetta. Fascinating stuff !!

  25. Never been one of the acrobats on the dance floor, but always spent plenty of time on it, March this year I had both knees replaced, I had been in a lot of pain and could'nt even manage to dance a full record, I am sure the years of dancing contributed to the premature wear. Happy to say that now I can manage two in a row if I pick my tempo carefully I was actually on the dance floor within two months of the op, all be it, a bit stiff. And I have also been lucky enough to get a few DJ ing spots so in some ways have transfered my passion for the music from the floor to the decks.
