  3. May be off topic but I thought about John Abbey the editor of B&S I heard he left the mag and started Ichiban records over in the states What's he up to now, (Did he marry Tamiko Jones?)
  4. Its hard to think of a venue stateside playing Ritchie Adams then Paul Anka then the Tomangoes and throwing Hank Jacobs into the mix. I like to think of that record shop in Hairspray were the kids got together and danced to the new releases in the shop! Also I remember an episode of Police Story,(a cops and robbers tv series set in Chicago in the sixties, theme tune was Runaway Del Shannon), where the 'house party' was featured with all the main characters dancing the Madison to The Impressions Its Alright
  5. Quite possible part 2 is the instrumental (cut 1st?) and the vocals added over it btw its Saxie on my copy is it a boot? lol
  6. Van McCoy, was Rosemarie his sister?
  7. Chester Pipkin !
  8. Boba, I hope by sick you mean great ....... I don't think many on here are 'down wib de street lingo'
  9. With reference to another thread I was suprised to see Larry Mizzells name attributed to that Moments record. Started me to thinking who are the top writers of NS and are there any unusual ones (I think we'll leave Motown out of it) one that's always caught my eye is Johnny Northern who penned Help Me, with a name like that he couldn't fail
  10. Both sides written by former Lunar Module engineer and jazz trumpeter Larry Mizzell
  11. There you go The album is called Connections and seems to be worth a few quid!!!!
  12. If my memory is correct its from an Elektra album (can't think of the title) the track is pitched somewhere between Lamont Doziers original and Oddessey's chart hit more a rare groove classic than anything else, the 12's are 'house' remmixes are they not.
  13. Lets give a big hand to Tyrone Davis consistent and having a great treacly chocolate voice that suited Clive Davis's Chicago arrangements superbly.
  14. No not similar (going a bit deaf not to mention daft) but I had them on the same c90 that got hammered in my car so I automatically associate the two, probably from one of RS's shows from jazz fm. Totally love them both how much is a DSOF then, can't afford the WP
  15. Check the credits Another Perry brothers masterpiece
  16. Can't help thinking of Detroit Sounds of Friction every time I hear William Powell, must have had them on a tape together, rate them both but which is the rarer?
  17. Not talking about playing them out Ernie, just putting together a box of Northern Delights with Solid Centres on vinyl in the same way that people may collect label runs. Its quite an eye opener how many of the majors released tunes for the northern market UA Eddie and Ernie Brunswick Gene Chandler,Cooperettes, Adams Apples Atlantic Tony & Tyrone, Drifters, Archie Bell Now imagine if they were all .....demos! there's a project
  18. https://youtu.be/b1qbFAmqJfc And this one
  19. Woah! I get a little bit frightened when people start using capitals I didn't mean to be controversial These records take me back to a time when my only connection with Northern was the rare visits to Wigan, Selectadisc lists and the report pages in Blues &Soul. When if you wanted to hear a record that had good reviews you had to buy it or travel to hear a DJ that was spinning it!!!
  20. Thanks Patto, has anyone got a definitive list of what was issued, I left the scene around '76 and didn't pay much attention to what was being released but searches have turned up Brenda Lee Jones Love of my life Uk ? Sheila Anthony Living love Route Any more I should know about?
  21. During the mid seventies a few UK companies released (legally) some of the big northern records Linda Jones Just Cant live my life Warner MVPs Turning My heartbeat up Buddah World Column So is the Sun Capitol and so on,all available from the local record shop for 99p or thereabouts (well by special order) Given that they are 1st generation UK releases on reputable UK labels what are your thoughts on them? I'd like to put a collection of these together any body got any other suggestions At a guess I'd say the prices have gone up a tad!!!!
  22. Which one of these two gets your vote? I can't make my mind up
  23. Bought it as a new release back in '71 after hearing it on Tony Blackburns morning show on radio one just before I had to get off to school ah happy days
  24. Can't find the 45 edit of this (less disco) but I think this version stands up
