The Dreaded 'skinhead' Reggae Sound
...not even Golden Snake? I'm a fan of classic rhythms re-done with new lyrics, a la Peter Hunni(n)gale, Bitty McLean, Lady Lex etc. - how about you, Pete?

£5+ A Page, Well Done
...and I wouldn't be surprised of other editions have got membership forms in them as well - I expect these would be "re-issues" or "re-presses", rather than "boots"

£5+ A Page, Well Done
I've got 800 (or so) editions of B&S - maybe I should flog them one page at a time as I'm sure I could concoct a flimsy "essential Soul memorabilia" excuse for each one

Sylvester Help Needed
The Southbound STAR - THE BEST OF... CD (released in 1989) does have the 9+ minute version: https://www.discogs.com/release/913876 It's a good set OVER AND OVER also appeared in the UK on the MIGHTY REAL L.P. (U.K. Fantasy FTA3009 ~ released in 1979), but I don't know how long that vinyl version is. If I'd been wise enough to read this topic at the week-end, I could have dug out the L.P. and had a look...

R.i.p. Alton Ellis
FWIW, Alton Ellis actually died in the small hours of yesterday morning (U.K. time), in Hammersmith hospital, thus making it October 11.
-
Thw Four Tops - This Old Heart Of Mine
Had to read that a couple of times before realising that "P/U" means "previously unreleased", Tony ...or even "previously unissued". ...or something

Values Please
Depends on condition and price, Kevin, though I don't do ebay (if that's your angle), so don't know... I have and am very pleased to have Trenchtown Rock (on Green Door) and Maga Dog (though Tosh isn't to everyone's taste) on vinyl I can't bring Palaving Spree to mind, though I do have an extended version kicking around somewhere - same for Them A Fi Get A Beating (I can't remember it).

Soul Choons That You've Forgotten For Years But You Still Love?
Crikey! I'd completely forgotten about that one, Swifty - absolutely gone from my mind - a great tune that I picked up when it was re-issued on Route (RT 6) in '75. Must give it a spin on the week-end Thanks for the reminder

The Dreaded 'skinhead' Reggae Sound
It was early '69 when I started going for Reggae in a bigger way (I also left school, so had a bit more wedge) - so I just love the rhythms from that period, whether Skinhead-related, Studio One or whatever

How I Spent 21 Years Looking For A Record
Us dyed-in-the-wool Reggae fans have a passion for Reggae records that is matched only by your (and our) love for Soul records. It has to be done. I mentioned on Pama a nice story, but so much more interesting than my experience of buying RISE AND FALL, which entailed me walking into my local favourite record shop (in about early 1970), asking to hear it and 5 minutes later forking over 6/8d and walking out the shop...

If You Didnt Know It Was A Pop Song
Interesting, Tony - yet there was a certain "edge" about Pet's 60s hits, wasn't there? I could add I KNOW A PLACE

E.k. Bunch - Banana - Jay Boy
No idea, Ken...sorry.
-
Jackie Mittoo - Man Pon Spot - Uk Coxsone
Handsome tune on a version of the STRAIGHT TO THE HEAD / NEVADA JOE rhythm...engagingly mis-titled too!

Who Did This?
For what it's worth, Colonel Elliott & the Lunatics had a version (called GUNS OF THE MARTIAN GIANTS), which rode the Upsetters GUNS OF NAVARONE version. There's also a cut (from 1968) by Blue Rivers & the Maroons.
