Apparently he did a cover of 'gypsy woman' on Bell. Mind you a mate of mine once said he thought it was 'blue-eyed soul' So yer never know. Class sound though---wonder if the flip stands up as good---anybody?

In the 70's we jumped trains, pinched cars(naughty )thumbed a lift and hung around M-way service stations hoping to cadge a lift from someone going to a soul nighter . They were easy to spot in them days Internet= easy to plan to go to a alnighter. No internet= just get up and go and all the risks involved ie get there whenever(if ever). get back whenever So its probably give us a comfort zone---whereas before there was no comfort zone and possibly that was part of the excitement. Nowadays you can plan 2 or 3 venues if one is no good without much planning. Nigh on impossible in yesteryear I think the internet has removed the risk on the scene. Meaning you can hear sounds on here, read reviews on events, see who is going to events--in fact you can forecast what an event is going to be like just by researching on here!!! Without the internet there were more risks and therefore possibly more ,shall we say, we are in this thing together attitude--- lets do it and enjoy it! I'm not saying internets bad just different for the soul scene---some folks like the'comfort zone' some like more of a risk---yer pays yer money Internet is the worlds biggest library

  5. that sounds suspiciously like my mate Terry Poole ----but he was from Congleton not Corby . Renowned back in the day for his'robin' . he famously visited an alnighter down south way and religiously kept to the white line in the middle of the road all the way there

  17. Yup , I'll agree on that The best grounding/education for the northern soul 'scene' ever imo. It created a demand after its closure that started the likes of VaVa's and Wigan etc. to satisfy that demand---and the rest is history as they say

  21. A lot of what has been mentioned is desert island disc stuff---- Just add this one to it folks---Make Sure ---The Dells Stops you in yer tracks and yer just have to listen---brilliant
  22. Ah well then---- think of the biggest records on the scene in the last 12 months and multiply the impact on the 'scene' they had by say 5 or 10 and you have.............. Mr Posts catchy little number about a rhino! For a 3/6 month period in '73 probably every major northern soul venue in the land had a rammed dance floor when that was played. not many folks sat around talking when that b*stard came on
  23. Hiya mate, just a tad confused here. Do you mean Casino classics as in label or 'type' of record' Anyway motown/tamla/soul and the like can be a bit of a mine field mate but am sure some kind folks on here with the'knowledge' can put yer right in that area I think yer pretty safe with the LP mate----Brunswick i recall. there's a version of Open the door to your heart on this isn't there
  24. I know what you mean
