..terrible thought just occurred to me..there but for the grace...in '73 i really became aware of Northern soul..having gradually been collecting Motown and Soul 45's for a few years..i hadn't passed my test so was always trying to get a lift here and there (usually to Boston's Gliderdrome) i knew Mick had wheels but i didn't know him well enough to cadge a lift..of God go I...never thought about it before..heres weird thing..i can remember clearly Mick's outfit! usually wore white skinners with a navy blue wool long sleeve jumper with green collar..that he bought from us,,,can see it now..

yep..its making more sense..this must've been the summer of 73..because Ross was seeing Marilyn from Mansfield (both working in Skeg) at that time ..because i went out with her from early '74..so rightly Torch was closed.Leeds central maybe..we all knew Pixie mick well, but i never asked him about the crash! and i think Ross went from bad to worse..i also met another guy from Grantham who knew Mick (at Skegness weekender) called Dave i think..(gary Wade intro'd us) was that you or someone else?

..I was about to ask..does anyone remember Mick Stevens?..he was working in Skegness and was a regular in the Maple room where we played soul/motown on Sat nites.I remember his fateful trip to the Torch when he was killed in car on route.Ross (Nottingham) survived as did pixie Mick tho sadly never the same.We had an impromtu whip round for the funeral..i was only 16 or so..tragic..anyone have a photo of Mick..? He used to come in our clothing shop and buy his shoes..
  11. pm me a scan please..
  12. as i remember cool off was a big spin at Wigan/mecca '74..Searling used to play it..alongside Carstairs..Soul bowl had some copies of mighty lover for £2 or so later on..i cant remember it being that popular until maybe much later..people bought it cos they could'nt get cool off..btw '' Cool off '' by a mile esp if you were there when it was first played...'' ..Richard popcorn Wylie strikes again with the tremendously popular instrumental..Cool Off..' (Richard Searling Wigan casino 1974)
