  5. ..yep i bought 'soul Yogi' and windy - shades of brass, windjammer strings..all PUP!..JV had a fondness for oddball instrs ..I remember him playing new jack 23 theme as 'that miami sound' by the gladiators..not the greatest inst but at the time....
  6. hmnn..i'd like to know where and which jukebox you here those on!!!....I grew up in Skeg and was a young teenager in the mid 60's...remember well the hundreds of scooters and Mods..but rockers were always in the minority. I dont remember anyone at that time having imports in skeg ..let alone on a juke box! mostly tamla motown 45's and some soul stuff , otis Redding, frankie valli, etc.. biggest sounds i can first remember were ' Ghost in my house' RDT, ' Just ask me' Lenis Guess, Skiing in the snow' Invitations...
  7. girl you better wake up inst...liberty...
  8. ..i lived in Datchet (30 min walk to Windsor) for 10 years and came across many people who frequented the ricky tick in all its guises.I also came across nutty Johm M who as stated was writing a book (supposedley) about the RT.I was a screenprinter and had recently done a ltd edition series of tee shirts based on the poster designs..i got some great local press (based on my canvas popart paintings) and John contacted me then hijacked his way onto my interview to promote his book,,all lightness and air..great tees and all that bull****...he told me how he'd created the posters using a method of iron on stencils which broke down after a short run..(prob expains why the early ones are so scarce) and that they needed more posters for a rolling stones gig...the mesh broke down and they ended up using net curtains ripped from the room..a fascinating story ..along with one day he answered his door to Brian Jones (who lived there briefly) who was walking his pet goat!!......after JM used my interview..he threatened to sue me over copyright of 'his' poster...a strange guy...never did see the book...was still living in Windsor about 4/5 years ago...
  9. ...naturally if you'd invested a fair price in an original and it was booted/pressed..you'd be very pi**ed off! the upside being, that many DJ's often ditched top sounds once they were booted.often offered at a cheap price (no one thought they'd be revived, and also the rate of turnover for northern soul dicoveries during say '74 was very rapid) us lesser mortals had the chance to own some nice originals even if they were not on the playlists anymore. Connie clarke, billy prophet, stanley mitchell, james lewis, etc all around a fiver..

i first saw talc used at the Queens hall allnighter in april (i think) 1974. The damp concrete floor of the old tramshed was definitely not condusive to northern soul dancing, the dance fashion at the time was the fast spins and most dancers used it for that....
  11. george blackwell - demo? Joe Hicks demo? johnny dunn demo? (veep) not the repress
  12. shortly after it was pressed first time in late 74/75..original copies were about for £6...i bought one ..i think there are plenty of copies but prob in collections..£250-300 seems a fair current value..

  15. names ive forgotten..the rest will always stay with me as a very lucky escape... sometime around '76 myself and a guy called Ray travelled from Skegness to the casino..i'd been going since '74 and after the niter we went for a pint of milk from the corner shop with a girlfriend, leaving another guy we barely knew in the car park. Upon our return we were collared by the DS who arrested barely known guy 'walking around in a daze' asked if he was alone he replied 'No i'm waiting for friends' (duh)..all four of us were arrested and taken to Wigan nick, searched..and asked to provide a urine sampleThe jail was packed with soulies some heavy types among them.I refused for several hours then realised a hopeless situation.I complied, we were released and told that we'd be up in court in Wigan in a month.Back in Skegness Ray and i moped about, shunning all things 'northern'.We'd a job DJing on Saturdays evenings and had to cancel a booking due to a wedding in Wigan!!.Then out the blue!..a letter stating we'd no longer be required but to take this as a severe warning!! weeks later we returned to the casino and learned that our lucky escape being due to the fact that the court was overbooked, Wigan DS choosing to concentrate on known dealers etc rather than (what would've been first time offenders) among then a Manchester crew with a guy called Big Willie? anyway we were off the hook..I'd been searched many times before and after but that was the closest shave..many i suspect were'nt so fortunate..
  16. some well known ones..can anyone complete the list.. COASTERS - CRAZY BABY - FREDDIE JONES MELVIN CARTER - MIDNIGHT BREW - JOHNNY JACKSON
