  1. Ha ha... was exactly that... ha ha. As in it made me chuckle. I thought it funny that you said it was a pre requisite that your DJ's talk. For no other reason than I think the music is more important. There was nothing more to it than that. So you can stand down Mr. Dyson.
  2. Ha ha.. we don't tell our DJ's what to play but we tell them they have to talk. Love it
  3. I understand what you are saying Jayne but I have never come away from a venue moaning because the 'talk' wasn't up to much The music yes. Frequently. As for 'someone who can cue a bunch of records' I have to say there is a little more to it than that. There is for me anyway.
  4. DJ's aren't collectors then?
  5. I disagree. I think they are extremely useful things to have. They at least give you an idea of the price of a tune. ie: whether they are a complete no no from the off. And if you read Bri's post properly, he did say not to pay the prices given in them. At the risk of being called a soul snob - I totally agree!
  6. Yes, and his 'Bootleg Guide' is a must have. Especially for folk just starting out!
  7. At the risk of sounding more stupid than usual.. couldn't he do that via his own site? I am sure once the word got out that Tim Brown was wanting to sell off some of his own personal collection, it would cause even more of a stir than this thread has. No disrespect to your thread Ian It just seems very odd that Tim Brown would do business this way. He's not usually this 'messy' when it comes to business is he?
  8. Have to say I usually avoid these threads as I am a cynical old fool and can't help thinking they are a wind up That said, I keep my records in record boxes, I only buy originals, I only buy US records (as a rule) and I don't bother with original covers. But that's just me. Record collecting is a minefield, even to the most seasoned collector. So proceed with caution and don't be afraid to ask for advice on here. We are a helpful bunch and for all our noise are always more than happy to help
  9. Is it me or is it getting like groundhog day on here? That said, I can't resist I for one couldn't care less whether a DJ talks or not. In fact a lot of the time I wish they'd shut the fcuk up! DJ stands for Disc Jockey doesn't it? Not talk as much as you can, as incoherently as you can Jockey. Granted, done well it can be good. But no amount of well delivered flannel is going to make bad records sound good. Like I said, I don't care either way. It's the music I go out for
  10. There are only 2 rules I reckon. Stick with them and you won't go wrong. 1. Buy what you like. 2. Buy originals.
  11. What a mad thread this is One thought has crossed my mind while reading it though... Perhaps Tim didn't want to sell his records via his site because he didn't want them to go through the books as it were. Just a stupid girls thoughts of course.
  12. You shouldn't have been such a tight wad and bid more
  13. This statement is just what I would expect from this pair of no marks. The attitude they show now is no different from the attitude they have showed all the way along. Even when the event was supposedly still going ahead. Truly shameful. Perhaps someone could get back in touch with the Nottingham Evening Post and give them a link to this thread!
  14. That's me out then As for CD's, I sent 30 odd last time to everyone on the list apart from DJ Bywell because he wasn't on my list. (send me your address DJ and I will send you one asap). This time I sent 32/33 was it? With one going to America and one somewhere else. I can't remember getting one from America this time round. Or anywhere else outside the UK for that matter I take it everyone received one from me? Wouldn't want to be known as someone who has 'took but hasn't given'
  15. You bought the right one without doubt. Fantastic tune!
  16. I have known the record for a lot of years. That said, never heard it played out much. It did sound good at the Coachman Nev. Well done for giving it a spin
  17. Nothing to do with me anyway That said, if I had bought something in good faith, thinking I had bought the original acetate, only to find out later what I had bought was anything but... I wouldn't be too happy.
  18. Oh, and I mentioned that you'd played it at Burnley... because you had

So what did he say Paul? Must have been good for you to be so forgiving
  20. Hi Kitch, I was replying to JMYTG's post about Roger Banks having bought his copy of 'Switch Around' from Rob Thomas believing it was the real one. Andy Rix had posted earlier in this thread saying that there is only one original copy of the acetate, which he has, and that any other copies are, and I quote, "newly made acetates/carvers or whatever". If this is true, how bad is that?

I haven't seen the film but I have seen the trailers and believe me it does come up way short!
  22. Or the Voltaires on Bacone?..... and maybe someone should
